| I believe whomever you heard it from mispronounced the term, which
I think you'll find is "horary" astrology. "Horary" comes from
"time"; the "hour" derives from that.
I am neither an astrologer nor a horologist, so I can't do justice
to the definition.

| Would that be 'old' astrology or maybe it's something new from California?

Horary astrology consists of casting a chart for a question asked.
The chart is based on the date and time and place of the question,
and I believe a different approach to interpreting the chart is
used. There are books on this type of astrology. I'm not sure
if other types of instances other than questions come under this
heading.
I do charts, if you would like to contact me off-line at the above
node.

No experience with her but I understand that Marcia (NATASH::) Butchart
also does charts. She was reccommended by another person who had Marcia
do a chart.
Marcia is another one of the noters here.

539.5 | I like Carole and Marcia, both. | LORAN::OPER | | Wed Oct 28 1987 19:50 | 12 |

Based on my note-reading, my personal opinion is that
BOTH Marcia and Carole are delightful, vibrant, enlightened
women, each of whom would probably give you "your money's worth."
Perhaps you could ask each of them to provide you with readings...
I am sure that whatever differences they might have, they would
both be of value.

539.6 | What little I know about the horary art | NATASH::BUTCHART | | Thu Oct 29 1987 11:28 | 24 |
| Yes, horary astrology is a rather more divinatory method of using
the art. One asks a question, and the astrologer casts a chart
for the moment of the asking, and interprets the planetary influences
on the answer.
In recent years, horary astrology sort of fell into disfavor as
an "invalid" method of using astrology, not for serious consideration
by "serious" practitioners. However, I suspect that, correctly
interpreted, this divinatory method could provide as good results
as the Tarot or I Ching or runes or other divinatory methods that
rely at least partly on the energies of the moment to provide a
seeker with an answer. I don't, myself, know how to read a horary
chart, although I've begun to leaf through books in the stores to
find a good text on the subject.
I do use a sort-of horary method in one instance. I now often cast
a chart for the moment that someone first contacts me to cast and
read their chart, and I compare the horary transits with my own
chart. I've found this method can help give me insight on how best
to help a person at that particular time, what they'll want to focus
on in a reading. Conjunctions (of the horary planets to my planets)
seem to be the most powerful aspects that operate here.
