There are many possible world views, but some seem to be approved of while others are not. Shamanistic healers are repressed in this society, while materialistic healers are given power and authority. Magical methods and practices are debunked, while materialistic scientists have often claimed that theirs is the only truth..... I have experienced some viewpoints, on rare occasions, that in spite of their positive an healing nature, seemed to arouse a hostile response in many people; Telepathy is taboo? I once had an experience that seems to relate to this; I was studying the UFO phenomenon, and telepathic communications, for many months. During this time I became certain (for a very short period of time) that I was directly perceiving the truth in a telepathic contact with other life forms. This certainty became evident in my speech and attitude. I described my experience in parables and poems and songs. My "friends", meanwhile, demanded that I "explain" to them what I meant in materialistic terms. They, in effect, demanded that I adopt their point of view to describe my experience. The poetic, dreamlike descriptions I had been giving them, were in fact the most direct way I could tell them what I was seeing. They would reply, "but don't you really mean...?" In effect they were unwilling to let go of objective consciousness for long enough to experience anything else. I could objectify my experience for them, but then I simply returned to the ordinary state of consciousness. My poems and parables excited them. They felt an inner sense of energy while listening to me speak, while in this altered state. Yet their entire response seemed designed to put an end to my state of consciousness as quickly as possible. True love is taboo? How often does a "true love" story have to end in tragedy? Two people who attain the rare state of "true love consciousness" are often warned by their friends or family. They may feel a surging of inner power, that seems strong enough to overcome all obstacles, yet other people around them may deliberately try to bring them down, and warn them that this feeling of power is "unrealistic". In dramatic representations, such as "Romeo and Juliet", one or both of the "true lovers" must die to demonstrate the impossibility of true love. Sacred consciousness is taboo? The mainstream religions around here teach that mankind is in a state of sin, and separated from God. On a few occasions I have been in an altered state of consciousness where this seemed obviously false. In those moments I seemed to be directly connected to the divine will of God. I was able to speak with a sense of personal authority, and my presence was felt to be a healing one by some who were nearby. It was this sense of inner authority which aroused opposition here. People would tell me that I must depend on outer, external references for my sense of authority. It seems that there is a general taboo against people feeling a direct sense of personal divine connection and authority. =============================== To maintain these states of consciousness it seems necessary to keep them secret. Being a hermit, or among a small, like minded group seems to help. Alan.

Alan, I know all too well what you are going through, because that is what I'm also experencing. The feeling is of being very much alone....not lonely, but very alone with (almost) nobody willing to take the time to even attempt to try to understand what you are going through and remain open to the possibilities that you are trying to express, and instead *judge* you by their standards and their own past experiences. This makes you want to retreat further into yourself and keep this wonderful 'secret' to yourself. Such people may even ostracize you and make you feel like an outcast simply because you are not 'like' them, and instead of accepting you the way you are, they are doing their best to make YOU change to be like them. Don't fall into the trap. You can never go back to your prior self, and even if you could, you wouldn't. Your eyes have been opened to such a degree that it may even be frightening to some people to even listen to you. Those people who want to 'change' you are not your real friends. That may be hard to accept at first, but I've always found that my true longterm friends accept me for what I am and will take the time to listen to what I have to say without judging me. You aren't EVER going to be the same person you were before, and that's OK. If you can try your best to make those around you understand that you will accept them for what and who they are, no matter what they are and make a point of this, the possibilitty is that they might be able to do the same toward you, even though they don't understand you fully......yet (one can hope for a change in the future). About the 'higher power' in relationship to you and the world - yes, what you have said is true. I believe also that the 'higher power' is within and all around. Those people who will require you to show the proof before believing in something that can't be proven will never find what they are looking for. It is something that each person must experience for themselves before they will ever even begin to fully share in your experience, and until that time comes for them, the best you can do is just to live and treat them in the manner in which you would like to be treated. After a while, they might catch on, but don't 'expect' miracles the first few times around. Hoping for one is OK though. Look around you and try to find others who have also shared in your experience. You will begin to find them. If you are wondering about how they might react to your experiences, test the waters by revealing just a small part of your inner feelings. If the person judges you, then drop the subject. If the person listens with intent interest and shares with you a similar experience, then you have found a friend. Hope this is of some use to you. You are not alone. Cindy | |||||

Alan, I, too, understand your frustration at not having those you care for experience the same level of enlightenment that you have apparently achieved. They will, when it's time for them. Keep your convictions as a part of who you are and how you speak and act, and it will surely help them understand. There *are* others out here who have similar understandings -- probably more than you might have imagined. I keep finding more and more "playmates" in the most surprizing places! As you are open, so will others be. Sheila |
