326.0. "Astro Chart for newborn ?" by EXIT26::CAMACHO () Wed Mar 04 1987 13:21

I would like to have an astrology chart made up for a rather
young person (new born) and present it as part of a gift.

My questions are, is it practical to do this so young and if
so, then at what age would it be okay to have one done.

My feeling is that it is quite practical, and even fortuitous, to
have a newborn's chart done. From the chart you can get an idea
of the kind of "mothering and fathering" that will nourish the child
and enable him/her to develop a strong self. It can also, by showing
the areas of probable talent, show parents what _not_ to insist
on in the way of education--we've all had experiences of certain
subjects or learning experiences being forced down our throats
by well-meaning parents, primarily because they feel it's a good
idea. (The reverse of this can be shown also--areas that would
never have occurred to a parent, because they themselves have no
interest or an outright aversion to them.) And finally, by looking
at areas of probably toil and struggle, a parent can be know what
strengthening a child will need to enable him to toil and struggle
to good purpose, not just flail fruitlessly.

    For what it's worth . . .

I think this will be an excellent gift! Though the child won't
be able to appreciate it for a number of years, if the parents
have some astrological understanding and are open to what the
chart reading has to say, they can observe how the child's
personality unfolds and see if it is in line with what the
    chart has to say.

A friend of mine has a chart for her 7 year old daughter. She
received the chart when her daughter was about 2 years old, and
she finds it amazing to see how different aspects outlined in
the chart are emerging in her daughter as she grows. She also
has read different parts of it to her daughter as well. The
chart not only discussed personality traits; it also dealt with
behavioral issues and gave suggestions on possible ways to handle
    them. An example would be:

Annie may have problems dealing with discipline because of
a deep need to feel that she is in control of her environment.
It would be important for her to have her own room, if possible,
where she can feel that she has some control over some portion
         of her world.

So, my suggestion is to have it done now and the parents can have
all that much more time to read it, enjoy it, and learn from it.

    Good luck,

    Carole

A chart reading is an excellent idea, just make sure the parents
will appreciate your efforts. Alternatives are a computer-generated
Astrological report, a hand-written report or taped report from
an Astrologer, or you could also buy a book on Sun signs, that is
specifically written for very young people, - I've seen a couple
of these in The House of Zodiac (Framingham).

326.5Synastry Between Parents & ChildNATASH::BUTCHARTThu Mar 05 1987 09:3517
If the parents will appreciate the effort, charts can be cast for
not only the child, but for the father and mother as well. A synastry
(astrological study of relationships) can be done for the family
unit to feel out the qualities of their interactions. This can,
in the hands of courageous and enlightened parents, be a wonderful
thing to have. Such a proposition should be approached with delicacy,
however. People often have very strong ideas of the correct ways
to interact, desirable traits in their child, desirable traits in
themselves as parents. To listen to a synastric analysis of one's
relationship takes great courage and honesty on one's part, and
calls for an astrologer skilled not only in the anaylsis technique,
but also in communications and counselling. The way one conveys
the information can be as important as the information itself,
especially when an important, highly charged relationship is the
    subject.

What area or town do you live in? I'm assuming you wouldn't want
to go too much out of your way.

Since you folks are using the VAX perhapse you could run the astrology
program that lives in many [GAMES] directories and just have the
interpretation done at the astrologers .

Sorry to have been lax, but I haven't made good professional
connections in NH yet; most of the people I know (and have liked)
are "in town" (i.e., within 10 miles of Boston). If you like, I
can send you the list of names I do know "in town", and you could
ask any of them for references in the Frozen North.

Well, I have a copy (not in a public area-sorry) and I got mine
from Bill Keefe, one of the conference members. I suspect that
others in the conference have obtained it, too. If you want to
forward the birth data (date, time & place) to someone with the
program, that person can cast the chart and VAXMAIL it to you.
Or provide you with a copy of the program so you can cast it yourself.

You can pick a copy of ASTROL.EXE and ASTROL.COM (which I use to
run it in BATCH) from my Workstation with the command:

             $ COPY PILGRM::SYS$SYSROOT:[BAHN.COMS]ASTROL.* []*

       But please:

           - copy it before 8, between 12 and 1, or after 5 (all Eastern
              Time) ... PILGRM is a VAXstation I

           - modify ASTROL.COM so that it doesn't MAIL the results to
              me.

326.14Good program, thanks!SSTMV1::DERKSENVidi, vici, veni!Tue Mar 24 1987 13:198
ASTROL.EXE is an excellent tool; I just ran my natal chart through and
everything came to within a minute of arc of other programs I've tested.

Thanks for posting it! Any chance I could have a look at the source program
(which, I assume, is in Fortran?). I'd like a shot a adding progressions and
perhaps some of the other Arabian Parts as options.
