291.1 | Future's Somewhat Malleable | INK::KALLIS | Hallowe'en should be legal holiday | Tue Jan 27 1987 09:13 | 14 |
| My experience with Tarot cards and other methods of divination is
that they show trends and not absolute certainties. An analogy:
You're driving along a road at some cspeed and a box falls off
a truck some distance ahead of you (say it's a cardboard carton).
You _can_ swerve or plow through it. It's up to you. If you see
the carton's empty, and/or the traffic in another lane makes swerving
difficult, it might be easier to continue driving (or apply the
brakes, hoping that if you hit it will be at a slow speed).
If you're told that you'll die of drowning next Tuesday, wouldn't
you move to the desert for that day?

I've read many theories about dreams and their significance -- I'll
skip the REM stuff and get to one theory that comes to mind frequently
(as I mull over the possibility) -- that is that we have a separate
life in our dreams and are carrying out actions on a different plane
that are just as real - at least on that plane - as our actions
in the waking state -

| re .2:
Hmm. I dunno what _you_ dream about, but my dreams are sufficiently
varied, and in some cases sufficiently bizzare, that I'd have to
be living multiple lives simultaneously.
I still suspect that at least some dreaming is "garbage removal"
from daily images/experiences.

Steve,
Yes,i have been told that although we dream our future,it is not
solid and can therefore be modified by our own choices. It is therefore
quite advantagious to be able to tap into our future to see what
steps we may want to take to change it.Like you say, seeing ahead
can give us definite choices and better control of our own destiny.

Hey everybody, you sound like you would like the book
"Companions in Spirit" by Laeh Garret and Jack Grant.
This book teaches the interested person how to
meditate, and clear the chakras in a very general way
with the end result to be learning how to contact our
spirit guides
Much of the book was channeled thru Laehwith the specific aim
of spreading the word that everyone has the ability to
communicate with their own guides. In the book they describe
the different kinds of guides available to us.
Anyway, to bring us back to the subject at hand, one of Laeh's
guides said that all guides use dreams to send messages,
especially when a person has trouble contacting thier
guide thru meditation or latihan.
Latihan? Just ask....

| Re .7 Latihan?
Latihan is an Indonesian word meaning exercise. The full term
we usually use is Latihan Keejiwan meaning spiritual exercise.
It is the process of standing before God, with a feeling of
total surrender, and sincerity which establishes a link between
the person and God (or the force, or whatever you feel
comfortable calling it-I like to think of them as my guides ).
When I do latihan, sometimes I am too distracted and I feel
or receive nothing. If I can manage to completely clear my mind
and just stand there and "be", without trying, I can usually
establish a pretty good contact.
I've asked alot of questions, most of which go unanswered,
and I've wondered if it was all just in my head. But, later,
maybe a few days, or maybe longer, I would have such profound
experiences that I knew what I was experiencing was something very
real. My goal is to find out about past lives first hand.
The ability to establish this link with "God" is passed from
person to person from the original person that received this "gift".

291.9 | It makes me wonder... | LEZAH::BOBBITT | Once upon a time... | Fri Feb 05 1988 13:21 | 14 |
| I had a strange experience with Tarot, last night. A friend was
reading for me with his Rider-Waite deck. It was mixed and confused.
But my life is like that now - things not looking very happy in
my "relationship", and forging new bonds with new friends, good
and bad mixed together. Well this person has always "intrigued"
me. So when another person there shuffled the cards, I motioned
as if to draw one, unseen. I drew "The Lovers". Reshuffle. Next
I drew "Strength". Reshuffle. Next I drew the Page of Pentacles,
a card this "intriguing" person uses very often as his significator.
You go and figure it, I'm too blown away by the whole thing.
