Here's the announcement of a new conference. Press KP7 to add it to your notebook. I don't know how open it will actually be discussions of dowsing. So far it only contains the introductory note. This file is open to anyone who, like myself, scratches around in the dirt for anything he or she values. Therefore, if you are a Coinshooter (Metal Detector user), a Dowser, a weekend Gold Prospector, a Bottle Collector or an amature Archeologist use this file to tell the world about your hobby. Share your adventures and misadventures with us. What have you found? What would you like to find? Give us your opinions and advice. Please use note 2 to introduce yourself. If you have friends within DEC who share your interests, spread the word about this notes file so that all areas of the DEC World are represented. Regards, Dick McClelland "The Metal Detective"

Re .1: You don't have to shout! Metal detectors can be bought for $40.00 or so, and the inexpensive ones can be purchased at places like Radio Shack. Here, however, I think we might want to concentrate on the dowsing side of things. (Or check out my note on psionic machines.) Steve Kallis, Jr.
264.4 | How to get the Metal Detection notes file. | ERLTC::COOPER | Topher Cooper | Wed Dec 17 1986 11:37 | 42 |
RE: .1 You'll probably get more information, including advice, if you post you're request for information in the metal detector notes file. If you don't know how to do that, here's how: 1) With the DEJAVU notes file open in NOTES, read note 264.0. You can do that by simply typing "264" at the notes prompt. 2) Hit KP7 (that's the 7 key on the numerical keypad). This should put the conference in your notebook. If the number at the upper right of your screen has an "*" after it, then that means that this capability has been set up for the note. 3) If you don't have a VT100 style terminal (with a numerical keypad on it). Simply type: ADD ENTRY FREEBE::METAL_DETECTION at the NOTES command prompt. This should have the same effect. 4) Type ^Z (control Z) to get yourself up to the notebook level. You'll see a bunch of conferences displayed, including METAL_DETECTION and presumably DEJAVU. Position the little arrow, by using KP2 and KP5 keys, so it is next to METAL_DET. Then hit KP7 again, and you'll be reading that conference. 5) Now you can use a WRITE command to post your request to that conference. Since it is a new conference, and the question is so broad, answers will be coming in for a while. Etiquette Note: Use of all upper case on computers is a custom that dates back to early teletypes and keypunches which only had upper case. It is a custom whose justification no longer exists. Unless you are for some reason stuck with an ancient clunkety-clunkety machine, don't type your notes all upper case. Its harder to read and gives the mental impression of SHOUTING. You're readers are much more likely to be well disposed to you if you don't. If you really have trouble using the shift key, turn off the shift-lock and use all lower case. Thank you. Topher

RE: .4 Sorry, the command in step 3 should read: ADD ENTRY FREEBE::METAL_DETECTING (That's why the KP7 option is so handy). Topher |
