184.1Because Their Authors Wanted To Preserve This ConferenceINK::KALLISMon Aug 04 1986 17:0216
During the "Secetera.not" flap, where it looked as if some conferences
would be deleted, some of the conference members apparently decided
    to jump the gun.

This is why in a few responses I've advised a _bit_ of caution in
how one responds and the level of what one talks about. See
ILL OMEN? SHALL WE RESTRICT THIS CONFERENCE? and a couple of other
    notes.

In order to keep nthis conference, in my opinion, we have to take
some responsibility in how we conduct ourselves.

So far, we have done so.

184.3The paranoids got them ...CYCLPS::BAHNWell yes, I DO live on an island ...Mon Aug 04 1986 23:3720
Hmmm ... I'm assuming that 184.2 is a pun ... a good one, I might add.

As Steve says, Some of the note authors became nervous. Since VAXNotes was
installed on Cyclops in the middle of the SEXCETERA flap, I missed many of those
base notes myself.

My personal feeling about the whole episode are:

o Of course, we should be considerate about what we note. These are
"public" conferences. (The joy of Creation is in our infinite
diversity and how our differences combine to form harmony and beauty.)

      o A lot of people over-reacted.

Note 111 (and its 209 replies) in the "Digital Culture" conference
(HUMAN::DIGITAL -- press KP7/SELECT to add it to your notebook) will provide
some perspective and entertainment.

Ever the anarchist,
Terry
