95.0. " He's WHERE ?? " by OWL::REILLEY () Wed Mar 19 1986 14:42

	I just discovered this file, and though I am not psycic, etc.,
	I thought I would mention a strange event that happened to me
	just recently.

	About two weeks ago, I was relaxing at home on a Tuesday
	evening, when a strange feeling came over me. I can't
	exactly describe what the feeling was, but it made me
	think very strongly of my old high school classmates
	and in particular my best friend, Tim. I just couldn't
	shake this overpowering urge to try and contact him again.
	I also had a very strong feeling that Tim was also thinking
	about me.

	We had eventually gone our separate ways, he to California
	and myself to Massachusetts. We had never kept in real
	_close_ touch but we did call one another now and then,
	or we sent Christmas cards to each other every year. Well
	that Tuesday night I couldn't get him out of my mind,
	even though I tried concentrating on a TV show and later
	reading a book. The last time I sent a Christmas card
	it was returned to me, so I knew he had moved but I
	didn't know where. A lot of memories came flooding back
	about things we had done together, etc., and I just
	felt this strange "pulling" that made me keep thinking
	about him. It was very frustrating because I knew I
	couldn't call him because I didn't have his current
	phone number.

	The next day I managed to get in touch with his parents,
	who still lived in Ohio where we went to high school.
	They gave me his new business and home telephone numbers.

	I called his office in California and was told that
	he was away on a business trip. I thought "so much for
	that idea...". But I decided to call his house and at
	least say hello to his wife.

	I spoke to his wife and discovered that my friend Tim
	was on a business trip all right, right 'here' in Boston !

	It turned out he likewise had been thinking about me, and
	he had called his wife that Tuesday night to see if
	they still had _my_ phone number, etc. (which they
	had misplaced)!! He flew home Wednesday night and called
	me right back to say hello. It turns out that he had
	stayed at a hotel in Framingham, and had dinner at a
	restaurant in Marlboro - only a few miles from where I
	work in Northboro!

	We both thought it was *very* _strange_ that after nearly
	4 years, we would end up 3 miles from each other, and
	we would both think of the other person, and try to look
	them up, at the SAME EXACT time !

	He might be back to Boston some time on business again,
	and he'll look me up when he does. If not we plan on getting
	together again later this year when our class holds our
	20-year Class Reunion back in Ohio which we both plan on
	attending...  :^}

95.2How should we post personal experiences.PBSVAX::COOPERTopher CooperWed Mar 19 1986 16:1313
Re: .1

    That's OK. I think that given the general nature of the conference,
    it makes sense to have a different "topic" for different personal
    experiences, rather than one long topic with some entries being
    new experiences and other entries being comments on previously
    mentioned experiences.

    I vote that unless a personal experience is closely analagous to
    a previous one, that people post them as new topics. We should
    have a keyword to mark personal experiences. What think others?

95.3New note for personal experiencesHUDSON::STANLEYASTRAl projectionistWed Mar 19 1986 16:487
    re: .2

    I agree that personal experiences could be in seperate notes as
    the authors see fit. I some cases it may be appropriate to respond
    to another note with a personal experience (like "Dreams come true?").

    A belated observation to .0:

    Sounds a bit like synchronicity.

    Re:  .4

    What is the definition of synchronicity? Does it imply events that
    coincide in a seemingly "fateful" way without actually being driven
    or guided by fate?

95.6Does This Help?INK::KALLISTue Sep 02 1986 11:2411
    Re .5:

    Synchronicity states that similar things happen at similar times,
    not so much as "fatefully" as in replicating patterns. Mark Twain
    once said, "When it's steamboat time, you steam." One aspect of
    synchronicity is that when conditions are right, things will happen
    along similar paths although the events may be unrelated in other
    ways.

    Sounds like that nice saying "When the student is ready, the teacher
    will appear." I've always liked that.
