| An aspect about palm reading or any similar analysis is that to the
extent it shows _characteristics_ and _trends_, there may be validity to it;
it takes a good slice of a person's life to see whether a partticular read-
ing is correct, and not everybody has that good a memory.
Also, some of the "lines" tend to be reinforced by the type of work
we do, making the readings relating to our jobs that much easier to spot.

49.3 | Reading Palms | GERBIL::WOLLEN | | Thu Jul 02 1987 16:50 | 24 |
| This is such an old notes file that I'm writing into, but thought
I'd share a little on palm reading.
When I was about twelve years old and visiting with my grandmother
I took her hand and looked at the most deepest lines I'd ever seen
on anyones palm. As a child her hand intrigued me and I took it
and started reading it. I knew nothing about palmistry but read
the palm anyway. Quite interestingly enough I told her things that
she couldn't believe I knew. I didn't know where what I was saying
was coming from. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that the
person doing the reading of the palm not only sees lines that may
have meanings in textbooks, but the person doing the reading must
also have some psychic ability, and the lines are only the channel
in which the mind sees.
I still watch my palm for changes. To this day I'm amazed that
I was able to read my grandmothers palm. My palm also has many,
many lines and shapes in it. For instance to mention a few, my
left palm has the star of David on it, many boxes, and many other
stars forming. Does anyone out there have any ideas as to what
this may mean? Please write me on hamstr::wollen.

| According to a book I read a while ago, the star of David on your
palm indicates a level of 'sensitivity' and that other psychics
also have the star on their palm. (Jeanne Dixon for one)

On my right hand, I have a line going from one side of the palm
to the other, and it is approximately 3/4 inch beneath the bases
of my fingers. The left hand does not have such a line.
Can anyone tell me what this might mean? Thanks.

I'm no expert on palmistry, but let me try. This information is based on
a book that I read a number of years ago.
First the hand. Based on what you said, I would judge that you are right
handed. The predominant hand supposedly has more detail in it than the
non-predominant. The line should be in both, so try looking closely.
I don't know the significance of it being missing entirely in one palm.
In my own palms, I have two lines visible. Since you didn't specify, I'll
try both.
The line starting on the thumb side and running into the palm is the "line
of head". It has relevance to the level of intelligence and rational
thinking. As an aside, the line running from the base of the palm at the
wrist upward is the "line of heart" relating to emotions. The more the
"line of head" cuts off or terminates the "line of heart" indicates which
type of thinking you use most.
The other posible line actualy starts at or on or near the "mount" at the base
of your first finger and runs off the palm near your small finger. If my
memory is correct, this "mount" is the mount of venus. Yes, we start talking
about love. This line supposedly indicates what kind of love life you have.
If it starts at the mount strong and consistant, then such is your love life.
If it starts as a fragmented delta, the love life will start slowly or later
in life.
In either case, if a line is deep or very prominent, it indicates the strength
or dominence of that particular feature.
I hope that I did not make any mistakes that would mislead you.

| I have always had an interest in palm reading, before never believing
nor disbelieving. I was at a small party with some coworkers of
my friend and I asked if anyone knew of a palmreader around. I had
always wanted to have it done -- just to see.
It turned out one of the women there was a palm reader. OK, I was
skeptical. When I asked where she learned (I actually pried it
out of her) she told me she was half Cherokee and her full-blooded
Cherokee grandmother taught her while they lived on a reservation.
Anyway, it was rather erie. She first noticed a St. Andrew's cross
on my right hand (I'm right handed) and said that I either had or
would save someones life in my lifetime and that the cross was a
mark to carry with me for all my life. What she, nor anyone else
in Chicago knew (I hadn't lived here much more than 6 months) was
that I saved my little brother from drowning when we were very young.
She went on to mention I had had some lower back trouble. True,
and again no one here in Chicago knew about it.
She went on with a number of very accurate readings and an observation
one still gives me the creeps: she told me that I tend to know my
dreams before they happen. This has tended to be true throughout
the years but I HAVE NEVER, NEVER mentioned this to anyone.
Her observation was also interesting. Her first reaction, later
related to me, was about my hands. Her exact words were that I have
the hands of an old woman. The lines are VERY deep and VERY VERY
prominent. I am only 23. It's something I never realized before,
we started looking at each other's hands and it's true.
Needless to say, I still am interested in palmistry and have started
reading some basics about handsand palms in general.

| I read in the Boston Herald yesterday that scientists in London (Royal
Academy of Medicine, I believe) did a study on 100 corpses to determine if
there was a correlary between the length of the life-line and the age at
which the person died. They were quite surprise that there was indeed a
corollary, and they are pursuing this further....

| Interesting. I was just looking at my life line and was wishing they'd
discover something that equates to a "you are here" sign so I can tell how
much longer I have to go. :-)
Also, my life line splits in two at the end. I wonder what *that* means!

| I had spent some time with my spiritual teacher in India. I could not get all
the knowledge I wanted, but I learnt enough about palmistry. My teacher did
warn me that as I did not have complete knowledge I must use it wisely. Here's
a little about this subject. When I get time I will enter some more
information.

The Lines of the Palm.
One needs to associate the lines with the Mounts, thumb and fingers on the palm
to assess the complete personality, past, present and future. The palmist has
to dig out the past, find the present and to brighten the future. First the
person has to be classified acccording to his/her mounts. The entire person
has to be surveyed from the Head to foot. Especially, the nose, eyes and lips
will reveal untold stories.
The qualities of seven planets, Jupiter, Saturn, Apollo, Mercury, Venus, Mars
and Moon are imprinted on the palm and are referred to as mounts, e.g. Mount of
Venus is right under the thumb, which indicates if the person is capable of
human affection, and in turn, loved and respected by people.
The thumb is of three kinds : Clubbed, Supple and firm. Fingers play an
effective role. E.G. The first finger not only indicates, specifies and fixes any
person, but also proclaims resolutions. Each finger is divided into three
phalanges. The first phalange (from the tip of the finger) indicates mood of
the mind, its complexes and ideals. The second phalange shows one's capacity
to judge things. The third phalange is a measure of one's materialistic success
in the world. In short, the phalanges of the four fingers represent certain
specific mental actions i.e. idealism, logic and materialism.
Lines on the palm can be interpreted quite significantly. Lines are of two
kinds. (1) Fixed or Constant lines. (2) inconstant or changing or changeable
lines.
The Life , Head and Heart lines are more or less permanent lines. They can be
seen almost in all hands (barring some exceptions). All other lines are
temporary and have only transient values. Some of these can be Fate, Health,
Sun ...lines.
The Life line and the Head line usually emanate, together at the same point
(i.e.) the junction of the Jupitor field and the Mars field.
Remember, a palmist works with power of intuition at every stage. It is not
that the palm that speaks. He/She speaks from within. The palm is only an aid.
His/Her experience is vital.
