Williams has done well for the Bulls, unfortunately he has
a shoulder like Mel Gibson's in Lethal Weapon, i.e. it pops

Beware Bulls fans, Williams has at least one career-ending injury

That's exactly what the Hornets determined. They recommended to Scott
that he get the shoulder cut on and fixed and then come back. Until he
does that, he's one movement away from losing his career. Only comparing
shoulders, Dave Hoppen and a similar but not nearly as bad problem and he
lost 1/2 a season when his went out.

| Anybody read the article in this weeks SI (NBA Preview Issue) on Sam
Perkins? ("Sam the Man", by Richard Hoffer)
Interesting reading, but I doubt all you Carolina bashers have the
stomach for this kinda journalistic truth. (Almost an oxymoron these
days :^(.)
Now I've said before that Bobby Knight had called Sam the most
coachable player he's ever had, but in this article Knight calls
Perkins "one of the finest human beings I've ever been around - the
ultimate team player".
Now not even I would give 100% of the credit to Sam's college coach
(his name escapes me at the moment - heh heh!) but in the article
Perkins is quoted as follows:
"[Coach Smith] had a way of looking after you, knowing what you were
doing. And then, he had a way of giving you room to grow, too."
Ex-players giving Dean credit for their development is nothing new of
course. In this weeks issue of Carolina Blue Michael Jordan was
interviewed (the Bulls play an exhibition game each year at the Smith
Center) and, as usual, he couldn't say enough about Coach Smith.

Yup Mike, sure. You and Dean. Heck, you prob-ble coulda done the
following too:
o Been to 7 Final 4's
o Won an NIT Title (when it meant something), an NCAA Title, and an
Olympic Gold
o Won 20 games for 20 years
o Been to the Sweet 16 ten years in a row
o Graduated over 95% of your players
o Been elected to the Hall of Fame
o Had an arena named after you ('The Child(ish) Dome'?)
o Run a squeky clean program with no (ZERO) NCAA infractions, despite
consistent recruiting success
o And on and on and on ...
Yup Mike, you and Dean. Heck you oughta apply for the job when
he retires. We could use a guy like you!
> The fact of the matter is useless to repeat but 1 gift-handed title
A crooked line from a crooked noter. Gift-handed ... Hah! The
'82 Carolina team was ranked #1 in the nation for the entire year. They
rolled through the NCAA tourney before encountering a thoroughly loaded
Georgetown squad. Saying it was gift-handed discounts Michael's incredibly
clutch jumper, Worthy's tremendous game (and tournament for that matter),
and assumes that if Jimbo hadn't intercepted Brown's pass that Georgetown
would've scored. Mighty big assumption for a game dominated by defense.
> and for every Michael Jordan that's been on his roster there's a Jeff Lebo
> to offset it. Jeff never got any better than his freshman year. Same with
> King Lice (tm), Joe Wolf, J.R. etc....
Oh yea Mike, lots of reason for embarassment here. Jeff Lebo is now
coaching at East Tennessee State, Joe Wolf is in the pros (if you can
call the Denver Nuggets "professionals" with their felonious "coach" :^(),
JR is in the pros. King Rice is considered a disapointment by many,
but can't we agree that's more a result of unrealistic expectations?
He's short (can't teach height) and can't shoot (bad habits learned
early are literally impossible to break).

Only a fool would argue that Bobby Knight is not a great basketball

When it comes to pure X's and O's I'm sure Michael is right: Bobby is
the best. Probably the best in the world for that matter. Where
Knight falls short is in the integrity department (Puerto Rican police,
LSU fans, chairs, etc., etc.)
There's no doubt in my mind Michael considers Dean the ultimate coach.
When it comes to X's and O's Knight is probably unparalleled. ('Sept

hadn't intercepted? hahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
cmon now Chris you're not that blind are you? I'll grant that you that
it is an assumption on my part that Georgetown would have scored but the
weapons were in place and the time on the clock was there for them to
set the wheels in motion without panicing. All they need to do was execute.
Never denied Michael's jumper was clutch or Worthy had a great game.
While we're in a piss and moan mood here do really think that Patrick
committed Goal Tending on all of those first six shoots by UNC?
Of course you do, why do I even bother to ask?

The embrassment is that he can't take marginally talent people and make
them better. No you can't teach height but King Rice is supposed to be
a point guard extrodinaire, height is not a requirement at the point.
BRAINS and ball handling skills are, neither of which he has shown.

| Well a not so bullish start this year with the bulls going 0-3 to
start off the season. But they come back with 3 wins in a row to
get back to .500, the week ahead
Tuesday at Utah
Thursday at Golden State
Saturday at Seattle
and sunday at Portland
All 4 of the teams are at .500 or better and this is the start of a
7 game road trip. Could put the bulls behind a little. Id like to
see them take at least 4 of the 7 to keep them on track here in the
early goings of the season. In december they play 11 home and 3 away
so if they play at home like they did last year well be all set.
Little too early to predict anything but I like the Celtics/Bulls
chances this year (hopefully detroit wont be on a mission this year).

403.46 | Bulls Tromp Phoenix....Play NY and Portland Next | VLNVAX::MBROOKS | | Wed Dec 05 1990 06:07 | 26 |
| The Bulls have been getting alot of slack from the media the last
week or so about not playing (beating) any top level teams. While
last night they proved that wrong the beat Phonix 155-127. This is
the second highest point toll by the bulls, there highest without OT.
They scored 86 pts in the 2nd half and only 6 (yes 6) were MJ's.
Michael Had 27 pts 5 rebounds and 7 assists (1 block)...He sat down
sometime in the 4th and there was never a need to bring him back....
I persoanlly would have like to seen him score in the mid to high 30's
to bring up his average a little but when you have 7 people in dbl
figures and 3 more within a basket of dbl figures you can sit down.
They also hit for around 63% (something like that)....Great Game..
The key players (other than the starters) King was almost perfect
hitting 5-6 and 2-2 from the freee throw line for 12pts 2bounds and
2ast (in limited action) but armstorng had his season high with 17pts
2reb, 7asst and 2 steals....
The only other note on last night, Milwaukee lost so this put the
bulls in 3rd place (confrence) 2 1/2 behind detroit (dont know if det
won or lost last night) and 1/2 game behind philly....Its early in

| I dont have the exact stats but basically the bulls scored 40 pts and
Phonex was held to 23....Chambers was something like 1-9 in the 3rd
and hornesak (sp) and johnson were shooting around the same. Not sure
what they shot exactly in that qtr but i bet it was under 20%...Phoenix
had the lead at one point in the 3rd qtr...at one point MJ scored got
fouled made the free throw got a rebound and went end to end for a jam.
He also make a great one handed catch and slam...Gotta see the
highlight on this one it was great.....The Bulls at home are one of the
best, I hope they can keep winning on the road as well....They play DET
twice this month once there and one at home...Could be the story of the
season...Hope the can play like theve played the last 4...

403.49 | Detroit Drops another won, Bulls closing the gap | VLNVAX::MBROOKS | | Thu Dec 06 1990 06:38 | 11 |
| Bulls got a 1/2 a break last night, Utah beat Detroit extending there
losing streak to 3, this leaves the bulls 1 1/2 out of 1st. But
Milwaukee won and that puts them 1/2 game ahead of the bulls. The
bulls needed Detroit to lose a few games seeing that they have NY and
portland this weekend...Im not greedy I hope they can win one of these
games. A young teams tends to get over confident after winning a few
in a row. Hopefully King/Armstrong/Williams and Levingston can play
good this weekend if so look for the bulls to extend there win streak
to 8.

| Seeing that this notes file may be going away (Ourgng::sports) I
have added an entry to the celtics notes file (AIADM::BOSTON_CELTICS)
its note 72 and will be the new official chicago bulls notes file...
I havent read anything in here that leads me to believe that this
notes file will survieve......

That's obvious! :-)
There's been several notes in the lasted 24 hours about ::sports moving
to CAM, thanks to the Chainsaw making a tremendous one-handed diving
stab in the end-zone with both feet just barely inbounds scoring the
go-ahead on the lasted play of the game. I think, however, they're
reviewing the play...... :-)
Also, another noter offered the temporary, and possible, use of his
workstation. And, of course, Sir Geoffrey Needle has a couple floppies
lying around. :-)

403.52 | IF theres a future good... | VLNVAX::MBROOKS | | Thu Dec 20 1990 13:36 | 9 |
| I do alot of next note things when I get into a note that has
entry after entry of nothing so I must have missed it...There
where a few people in the Celtics note that wanted a bulls
entry over there anyhow so now there in both places...If this
notes file survives then it will continue here as well, even
though the note seems to be empty this year, Im sure the bandwagon
jumpers will be back if the Bulls make the playoffs and go any
where (Which they will)....Thanks for the info on the future of
sports...
