391.0. "It's a Man's Life" by 42730::STRAGED (Norwegian Blue...Beautiful Plummage) Mon Oct 22 1990 06:07

I wasn't sure the best place to put this and as it is true, I didn't
think that the Sports.Joke File was appropriate. Anyway decide for
    yourself....

Oh, and apologies to the ladies in advance, but as I said it is all
    true!!!

Rome, Italy: A social trends survey in Rome suggests that most
Italian women have been hit by their husbands and that many of them
enjoyed the experience. Seventy-five per cent (75%) of those
interviewed - all over the age of 50 - said they had been beaten by
their husbands, fiances or lovers. Many were nostalgic for the good
old days. "My husband doesn't hit me anymore," said one woman, "it was
wonderful when one got smacked. A good smacking shows that your man is
    really a man."

This will set women's lib back 20 years!!! Throw in Madonna's Spank
Me and men will start believing it soon!!

It has sent a ripple through the liberated europeans, what to you think
on that side of the pond??

They enjoy a good beating? No wonder so many Italian-Americans are
    Patriots fans.

Probably the only form of attention paid to them by their husbands,
lovers, fiances. Men should be able to express love in a much
    more affectionate manner.

While I agree with the above statement Wheel, I also know a few
Italian princesses who do indeed like to get into a good spat and
take a shot or two no matter what type of attention they're being
paid. Perhaps because in they're upbringing their brothers and dad
smacked around. Don't know but I do know at times they deserve it...

Gee, I never thought it was manly to hit a woman. I suppose she could
really, really wang you a good one, but even still....

One thing to keep in mind, however, is that in some instances
European culture is quite a bit different than here.

And one scary thought: perhaps they're just more open about it
over there. Perhaps our Puritanical roots tend to make us keep
our skeletons in the closet....

Why would I hit women, dan'l? I've smacked my brothers a couple of
times but they deserved it, and they were quite a bit smaller then,
    too. (-:

This hasn't gone much into a SPORTS discussion but more of into a potentially
sick discussion.

Let's talk about how Holyfield is gonna pummel Buster(girly mon)Douglas.

Well I want to see Buster prevail. If he looses then the smell of boxing
will be worst than the last few years of Sugar Rim (tm)...

His Toyko victory will be viewed as a FIX!!!!

Speaking of jewelry. Wasn't it Mark Magwire (sp?) during the Series
that came trotting back to the dugout with a little gold chain bouncing
   around his neck.

The announcer says: `Well... looks like Mark bought the Mr T starter
   kit.

   Cracked me up.

You mean I got a mention on national TV?!

Wow. Musta missed it cuz whenever the pock-faced MacGwire is at
bat I zap my mute and avert my eyes cuz nothing yanks my chains
worst than a_overrated media hog, and the gilt-by-association
ol' pock face is just that...

If *he's* gonna start emulating MrT he better work on his technique
instead of buying jewelry, which cain only complements a macho main,
    but cain't make him.
