| Phil,
missed that quote. Do you remember to whom it was attributed? You
might be able to find it and many, many other relative quotes in
Bartlett's Book of Quotations.

a list of quotes attributed to nobody. Things like,
If you think you're going to lose, you have already lost.

| Phil....
One of the most inspiring speeches I've ever had came in our game
a couple of weeks ago... try a variation on this sometime....
"You're down 7 points at the half to a squad that's
bigger than you, and has eight A side players.
If you lose now, then you can take pride in the fact
that you've done so well. But if you can overcome it,
and show these guys you're winners, you can take pride
in that, and can talk about it for years to come...
Let's give 110% for the next half. Leave it all on the
field, don't bring any off with you...."
To a man, each of us on the field said that those words pulled us
together and helped us overcome the other team. We scored 27 unanswered
points.....

| Phil,
Was it something like this?
"If you think you're beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you won't,
If you think you'll lose, you've lost...."
If so, the whole thing is on the wall a couple of cubes from mine. I'll
gladly put it in here if you want.

| OK 'Saw, you got it:
If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you date not, you don't
If you'd like to win, but think you can't
It's almost a cinch you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you're lost;
For out in the world we find
Success begins with a person's will,
It's all in the state of mind.
Life's battles don't always
go to the stronger or faster one;
But sooner or later the one who wins
Is the one who thinks "I can."
Too mushy for me. I like the one I saw in here the other day: to win the
game is great, to play the game is greater, to love the game is greatest.

Be brave, my son,
And fight the fight!
It's out there to be won!
Do not go gentle into that good night;
Take victory in the sun!
So grasp the flame
And rise to fame!
Your hopes may rise, then dip.
Your fate is yours, none else to blame;
You lost because you sip.

| Dickster - I'm rollward,
My H.S. football coach's inspirational speach always centered around
Wake Island and WWII, the big one. He always had a line that went:
"Remember, the last 4 letters in American are ICAN..."
My H.S. football team (I wasn't on the team, BTW) was so inspired
that in my senior year they went 0-9-1 and sscored 6 points. The
tie was a 0-0 yawner in the most inept game ever played...

Thats the one I saw. Thanks for posting it. It is a little musshy, but
I still can use it. We can't really swear at these kids, because we
suit up all our freshman and we got one of em that, the last time
someone swore, he ran home and told momma and the next thing we know,
the AD is at practice telling us he got a complaint from a parent.
Gawd, what happened to the old days when your coach's most
inspirational speech was !%@$%^#$@$%^@$%@$$@%#$%@#$@#^ - NOW LETS
WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, we have to play one of the biggest teams in the SWCL this week,
their offensive line is probably from end to end about 235lbs average
and our biggest offensive lineman is 185!!!!! Big trouble in little
China!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks..............Phil

Ah, Phil, they're just a big bunch of slow guys. Probably eat donuts
at half time too...
Superior technique and quickness can defeat size sometimes.
Good luck to you!

Sorry Paul, we already played and beat West Boylston 23-13 for our only
win to date. They've got a really good running back in Jeff Vanskyhawk,
but not much else. They could be in for a long season, just like us at
Prouty. We play Oxford this saturday night. We are hoping for rain to
neutrilize (sp) their size and yes we've got some traps planned. Our
coaching staff is really just hoping to come out of the game with
something positive, although we coached this week to win. Only time
will tell.
