| Johnny Most was probably the worst announcer in the history of sports.
Only blind Celtic fans enjoyed his butchering of the game. At first
I thought Mike was announcing that Most had died - at least he'll
be around to do commercials for lung machines...
I'm sure they'll have a Johnny Most day, and retire his lungs and
hang them from the rafters or something.
Thankfully this pompous ass, as Mr. Knorr perfectly described him,
is finally ending his 'career' as a head in the butt homer of an
announcer.

Why be jealous of a araogant, obnoxious, no-knowthing? My dead

guy has a woodie whenever Bird touches the ball. He's the most
biased announcer ever, he's stupid, he's demeaning, obnoxious and
a lusch and a letch.

| re: lung machine
Unfortunately, Johnny has taken-up smoking again. As an ex-smoker (9+
months now), I can understand a life-long smoker's tendancy to go back
to them, even after serious illnesses. Hell, even after being
smoke-free for the longest period of my life since my teens, I still
wound up last week with one of the worst flus ever, and my lungs right
now are barely resisting the pneumonia the doc has warned me about.
And I quit smoking for my health? That's what I keep tellin'
myself......... :-)
As much as I didn't care for Johnny as a game announcer, he sure is a
pretty funny guy on morning radio (WCGY).

| I've always enjoyed the *character* that is Johnny Most.
Sure he was a homer, sure he was as biased as the day is long, sure
he thought that everyone was out to get the Celts...
BUT, in this day of plastic Dick Enberg-Dan Dierdork announcers
Johnny Most has *style*. It may be a style you disagree with, but
it was there nonetheless, and it was unique.
To listen to a Celts game with Johnny doing the call was an experience
for a fan never to forget. Whether you hate the Celts or love them,
you can't take away the uniqueness of Johnny Most, any more than you
can take Rizzuto away from the Yankees.
I'd rather listen to Johnny, with all his foibles, any day, instead of
having to listen to people like Enberg, and their endless drivel.....
We'll miss ya Johnny! (and so will Jake O'Donnell),

this one. Reason: way back when I was a fifth grader attending my

autograph, and got refused, with an obscenity to boot. Haven't felt the

Re .12
That's funny, I met the man in person once in a furniture store
in Nashua, back when I was a teen. He was real nice to me and my dad.
Maybe it was because there were only four of us there including
the owner. I thought he looked like death warmed over! As far as
his announcing goes, personally I thought it a bit much but it sure
is damned entertaining. Most people I know wind up imitating the
guy and getting a good laugh out of it. He has said some classic
things.

I also had no problems getting an autograph from him and this is while
he was working a game. Perhaps the fact that they were blowing Denver

| only a true Celtics fan mourns the retirement of Johnny Most. During
that long dynasty as the best in the NBA, Most was the voice of the
Most. Non-Celtic fans hate to admit it, but they hated Most because he
embodied the Celtics spirit - play to win, give no ground, the world is
against us - all the stuff Red taught the Celtics. Now, the franchise
is just a business for a large conglom, and we will never see the likes
of the Celtics again, and their voice will never be heard. I wonder
what they'll do for Chick Hearn when he goes, bless him with

| There's a place for homer announcers. No doubt, Most was a homer. But
he brought me back to basketball, after I'd gotten thoroughly torqued
at the treatment Purdue b-ball gave their student body.
I'll miss the gravel voice - it was a quick and sure-fire way to make
sure I'd picked up the game I wanted when driving at night. I'll miss
the boosterism - it made me feel like this was *my* team. (Took a
while to get used to, I'll admit.) Most of all, I'll miss the

Most is a homer, but I sill enjoyed him. Quit a few of the players he
attacked even claim they got to like the guy.
The one thing you have to remember about the guy comes out of his own
mouth.............
He was asked about why he acted like he did, and he said when the
Celtics were being beat, he felt like someone was taking something from
him. He honestly feels that he was, is, and always will be a Celtic.

a game while listening to Most was like there were 2 different games

Most said, "Well, sometimes the game gets really slow, and there's
not much to comment on, so I add a little drama to it." (or words
to that effect.)

Guess you guys have more experience in diametrically opposed

working my way through college hearing the playoff game against the
Sixers, when he went into his "dog whistle" voice. And I still get
chills every time I hear "Havlichek stole the ball"... He was a
caharacter, and yes, he did "call 'em as he sees 'em", but it was great
for a loyal C's fan to have someone in your corner, yelling against the
indignities of the zebras and McNasties of the world that would attempt
to usurp the rightful place of the Celtics on top of the NBA heap...
An era has died...

| Hi,
The Celtics aren't even my favorite team and I think Most
is great! His announcing to me is analogous to 'humor by
exageration.
And he also didn't dislike everybody that wasn't wearing
Celtics green. I remember a few years back when the Bucks
(my favorite team) were getting blown out in Game 4 of
a playoffs sweep, Most said that Moncrief was one of the
classiest guys in sports and had a bigger heart than the
whole arena in Milwaukee.

In short, if that was announcing .... the C-minus' will be better

The only thing I'll miss is his ability to get my Anti-Celtic blood
