379.0. "Hit the bricks losers..." by CSOADM::GEORGE (What, Me Worry?) Thu Oct 04 1990 09:34

Danny Sheridan of USA Today predicts that Bud Carson will be the
first coach to get the ax this season. Interestingly though he
didn't mention anything Eagles coach Buddy Ryan. Others mentioned
were Vikings coach Burns and a couple others.

379.1His Rudeness' britches just got a little warmerSHALOT::HUNTWyld Stallyns RulesThu Oct 04 1990 10:1513
Eagles' owner Norman Braman gave His Rudeness the dreaded "vote of
    confidence" yesterday.

Norman said that Buddy's job was safe through the end of the season.
Which makes sense since Buddy is in the fifth year of a 5 year contract
and Norman does not like to eat contracts.

Anything short of a good showing in the playoffs will send His Rudeness
packing, in my opinion. And, if the current dismal 1-3 record gets
much worse, Buddy could very well be back on his farm before the year
    is out.

A couple more losses for the Vikings and Burns won't make it through
    the season.

I don't think so. The Vikes, like the Twins ftm, seem to let a
basic contrarian instink influence even their play calling much
less the hiring and firing of coaches.

Fans screaming for the excuse-machine Burnsie's haid? Then there's
not a rat's ass chance in a froze over hail of him being fired.

The Vikings live on excuses, and Burnsie will retire under his own
    power, unfortunately.

Ther reel focus up here is the ridiculous Herschel Walker "deal."
Here they gave away a ton (9 draft choices plus four good players)
for a guy who isn't even among the 25 best RBs in the league. As
they're saying up here, Herschel is the only blocking back in NFL
history to have two TV talk shows. The guy is awful. Yet they're
forced not only to play him but to try to run their offense around
    him.

In the Tampa game Herschel went 11 rushes for 8 yards for a robust
three quarters of a yard per crack - and he looked bad doing it.
In the second half they gave up on Herschel and gave the ball to
Finney, running behind the very same blockers amassed almost a
100 yds and a 6-7 yard average... with "superstar" Herschel throwing
    halfhearted blocks.

If anybody goes it'll be Marvelous Mike Lynn. Burnsie's got the
awful Herschel Walker to use as a_excuse for this his latest choke
job failure, and he may have a point.

Boy, Herschel Walker sure did look like the real thing before he got to
Minnesota. He stomped all over college ball, the USFL, and was a stud
    back at Dallas.

Hard to believe. I thought the Vikes would be a real tough to beat
this year. Especially after I saw the story of their off-season team
trek into the wilderness boonies somewhere to try and build some unity
    between last year's warring factions.

Way to go Ultimate Losers of '90, the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings, as we all know, are the one or two most talented
squads in the game right now. But they have a problem or two:

    1) Poor OL for run blocking.
    2) Poor running backs.
    3) Poor QB play.
    4) Poorest DL against the run.
    5) Poor sack performance by DL.
    6) Poor LB play against run and pass.
    7) Poor defensive secondary play against pass.
    8) Poor depth on offense.
    9) Poor depth on defense.
    10) Poor defense on special teams (run backs against).
    11) Poor offense on special teams (no blocks, short run backs for).
    12) Poor player development.
    13) Poor game coaching.
    14) Poor general management (Walker "deal").

Other than that, they're the very best.

Charlotte will take them! Of course they'd have to change the name to
    the Carolina Rebels.

Ewwwwww. I kind of like the sound of that.

    FWIW.
