| Okay, when I run I wear New Balance 840s.
I started wearing New Balance after Brooks shoes gave me mega
problems with shin splints.
I like the 840s because they're lighter than most New Balance
shoes, and they are really comfortable.
For wearing around it's usually old New Balance that aren't
good enough to run in, or Converse lowcut basketball shoes...

| I bought a pair at Kangaroo Crossing in Fitchburg. The only reason I
went there is because they gave me a $10 trade in for my old ones. When
I got them home I found out they were 'volleyball sneskers', is it
legal to wear them to work?!!!

| Since my days of b-ball are over, I buy whatever's on sale. I also do
not spend over $30 for a pair of sneaks because "they're in vogue".
My nephew just bought a pair of $75 Nikes (with his own money). Within
a week the stitching holding the tongue in place came apart. He was
able to get another pair. Again two weeks later the tongues are coming
out of both shoes. He's writing a letter.

| For running, I'm on my second pair of Asics gels. They're really
comfortable, and they have not given me any problems. After about six
months with my first pair, I started really widening holes that had
started in the front of the shoe(6 months w/running shoes is probably
long enough anyway). They may not last for years and years, but my
knees haven't given me any trouble yet. I had a pair of Reeboks w/that
B.S. Energy Return System sole; they shot my knees to hell and they
wore down very quickly--will never buy Reebok running shoes again.

| I wear Nike Air Pegasus running shoes to race /Don to the $2.00 window.
For hoops I prefer New Balance high tops. Frankwa, you might have seen
the soles of them as I soared over your head for that reverse slam in
Worcester. I've tried every pair of Avia high tops and they all hurt my
feet. This is my 3rd pair of New Balance and I'll be buying another
pair if I play in a hoops league this season. Great support.
I had a pair of Etonic running shoes because I got them for a very
cheap price. They were, at the time, Etonic's top of the line running
shoe. They totally sipped. I never had knee problems until I started
using them. So, I went back to Nike and my legs feel ok again.

| For Running - been wearing ASICS Tiger brand shoes since way back
when they were Ontisuka Tigers. Currently use the Gel-lyte series.
For racing, I have Gel Racers for races under 10K, and Tiger LD's
for races over 10K's. Need to buy a new pair of spikes for the
track. Also have started to alternate with a pair of Avia's -
find them to be a good cushioned, knee stabilizing shoe (which is
what I need).
I use teh Gel lyte series because I supinate (roll outward) when
I run, and they are the best shoe on the market for supinaters.
Most folks are pronaters.
Can't wear Nikes, though I do have a pair of cross-trainers I got
for a few bucks when I worked at an athletic shoe store. Nike uses
a curved last, and it hurts my feet.
For hoops, I've always worn Converse All-Stars. For knocking around,
I have a pair of Red Chuck Taylors (what else!)
Reebok probably makes the worst shoe on the market.

| I wear Asics Gel Strikers for running because I'm a pronater and heavy
heel striker. These shoes have good support, good soles for trail
running, and are cheap when bought mail order ($39.95 when bought two
pairs at a time). I only get 200-250 miles on a pair of shoes, so they
only last me about six weeks.
Gail wears Turntec Road Hawks. Good support, good trail-running soles,
and fit her better than Asics. Fortunately, she gets almost 400 miles
on a pair (she has better biomechanics than I), so they last her a good
two months.
We both used to wear Nikes until the quality started to go down and
prices up (can't buy them mail order any more).

| The best fitting of what's on sale.
Have had New Balance and Puma. Currently have Nike low cuts for general
sports activity; beautiful red Converse high tops for when I want to
look elegant (they hurt my feet); a good pair of Reebok high tops (with
the instep support strap.... no pump) for hoops. The Reeboks are the
most comfortable. I also have a pair of Reebok walking shoes that I
wear to work, and they're REALLY comfortable.
PS - For Skiing (who said anything about skiing?
Nobody... but I don't give a crap.
I'm tellin' ya anyway.
So pay attention!)
Nordica... From the least to the most expensive, they fit me great.
Hiking Boots = Herman Survivors
No sandals
Loafers = Thom Mcann
Cowboy boots = Dan Post (but I don't really have any cows, man)
Why do men's pants all have pleats in the front now? They look dumber
than shit! Like something from the Thirties... or like maybe just
jumped out of the clown car at the circus.
No matching handbags.
(Western yuppies have carpeting on the floors of their pickups... This
is true! [ hundreds of Vinyls gave their lives to cover the floor of my
pickup ])

For hoops, I can't beat Converse Cons ERX-150's. Just the right
amount of ankle support and pretty light too. That's all I'll wear for

For bumming around, I use my old converse hoop shoes.

| I'm walking advertisement for Avia. Can't say that I've owned any of their
hi-cut basketball sneaks by them, but the tennis and cross-trainers are the best
sneakers I've ever owned, both for comfort and durability.
By the way - I always buy what is on sale too. Refuse to pay $75 for sneaks.
For some reason, I've been able to find Avia's at discount department stores
once in a while (TJ Max, Marshalls, Filene's Basement). Bought my cross
trainers for $38 (were $78 in the mall).

the wrong place to ask I am going to anyway...) I bought a pair of Nike

I'm not an expert runner either, and this isn't an expert reply, but
I've found that different shoes react differently to the way you run.
I *can't* wear Brooks shoes. I *always* get shin splints.
Once you find something that works, stick with it. With luck, as
they improve their line of shoes, they'll keep working for you.
(I was really nervous when New Balance came out with their new line
of shoes, for fear they wouldn't work as well as the old ones did...)

| I usually buy my running shoes at discount.
I go to Bob's Stores here in Connecticut. I can usually pick up
a pair of running shoes for about 75% of list price.
New Balance pricing policy usually is related to the shoe number.
For example, the New Balance 840s I wear, list for $84. The 996s
that I used to wear (top of the line shoe in their old line) list
for in between $99 and $102. At Bobs, I could pick up the
996s for between $70 and $75, the 840s, I get for around $65.
Running shoes last me roughly 6 months for running (200+ pounds
doesn't help their lifespan) and then I wear them for bopping
around in.
$120 - $130 per year is cheaper than some pursuits. Hell, if you
bowl every week you could spend twice that in a year, easily.
Just a matter of viewpoint....
