The only answer is a woody. Never never use a foreign object
like aluminum when a woody will do.
In fact, the great song Louie Louie was originally written about
woodies, but at the time people with fake eyes got upset:
Woodie, wood-eye, oh, oh....
I mean, would the Jan and Dean song about sidewalk surfin be the
same if they were singin' about having a '34 Aluminum????

| Hey dan'l,
Out here in the west, the plants from CXO, Denver, ABO, Tempe, and
Phoenix get together in Sep. or Oct. and have what is called the
Southwest Tournament. Softball is one of the sports. Each site
takes turns being the host. Do you folks do anything like this?
I always wondered why DEC didn't have a national tourney for the
top finishers in each sport. Maybe........

Mike, I think the Phoenix site had to relinquish the host title
this year due to the transition situation. However, I think
Tempe was next in line, so, for all practical purposes, it will
be in Phoenix. But, the lil' weenies are conspiring against us

October. We are going for our 5th consecutive champeenship this

| RE: .6
That tourny sounds cool. Unfortunatly, There's really not enough sites
in the southeast outside of Charlotte and Atlanta to organize something
like this (i.e., most of the sites in the Southeast U.S. are sales and
services...not enough employees for a poker game).
The closest thing we have is something called the Charlotte Corporate
Fitness Challenge. We compete against other companies in Charlotte in
events including softball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, horseshoes,
table tennis, 5K run, etc. (all coed). We usually finish near the
bottom because DEC Charlotte only consists of about 300 personnel; IBM
has a site here with over 1000, and the banks in this town employ most
of the Charlotte population.
The damn thing starts on Thursday night and ends Sunday. By that time,
the 30 or so people competing from Digital split between all those
events are ready to drop dead from exhaustion.
We also compete every year in the NC state softball tourny. We've been
knocked out in the first round the past two yearsby these teams with
these huge monly-women (that's opposite of girly-mon) that look like
East German speed skaters (you know the type). We lost by one run both
times.
Hey, Claybone, maybe we could stretch your tourny this year and just
call it the Southern Tournament. Considering the NCAA Basketball
seedings, just cause we're from the Southeast don't mean we can't be
put in the western bracket!

| Correct. There is a mercy rule in our league that if a team goes up by
12 runs after four innings and the other team can't answer in the
following inning, the game is called.
There's also some kind of mercy rule in our league that I think is that
if a team has shut out another team in three innings and has at least
10 runs, the game is called.
I guess the name implies it all; it's mercy for the losing team to not
have to stand out there and get clobbered. Kind of like the Broncos
only John Madden said they aren't allowed to stop.

| Is this DEC-ball you guys are talking about??
Down here in S.C. we have a fair team. The last two years we won the
div. but got our butts kicked in the playoffs.
This fall we have a mostly new team with only five players off the old
team playing this year. We started last week and lost our opener
13-11. We have a new left fielder and he had two COSTLY error's that
allowed six runs to come in. Once we had a two out, bases loaded and
the ball was hit to left and he came in too far and it rolled to the
fence. Plus our hitting was awful!!!!
The second game we tied, another p*ss poor hitting game. Good defense,
we just couldn't hit the ball. I went (I hate to say it) 0 for 4. I
know, my tale should have been put on the wood.
We have 16 games left, so I figure we will finish 16-1-1!!!!! If we
can get our act together and hit the ball. Last fall we finished 15-3.
We got rained out tonight and we play Locheed Aeromod thrusday. I will
be back with the details that night.(I work 3rd)
Wish us luck!!!!!!!!!!
You guy's in Charlotte, maybe we could play one day for a North/South
Championship. I'm sure our team would travel there for a day or so!!!
Let me know and maybe we could do something. That West thing would be
most excellent.......BUT................................

we lost.

| M.J.,
Our team in Charlotte is co-rec.
I doubt that anyone up here wants to play again until next spring, but
I'll ask Joel Athy anyway. (You might want to send him mail,
SHALOT::ATHY.)
We finished our season last month as champs for the third straight year
and I'm pretty sure everyone is about softballed-out for this season.
Besides, it's getting close to volleyball time here in Charlotte.

Yeah, but at the other field in Maynard, there will be a battle for
A division first place between IPC (my team) and the Express (boo,

| RE: Turkeys vs. Outlaws
Sounds like it was a great game!! Congrats to the Turkeys, I'm glad to have
played a part in that single blemish on your record ;^)
We, the 4th place Jousters, play the 3rd place Packers tonight, should be
another good one.
Hey John Hendry, given last night's results, does your statistical wizardry
indicate that the continuation of our rainout (at least I think it was against
you) scheduled for Friday is still necessary??

It was a great game last night. Great pitching and solid D on both sides
of the field.
John was the Outlaws hero for a half-inning. With the score tied 2-2
in the bottom of the sixth and a man on first, John layed down a nice bunt. The
Turkey's pitcher had to hurry his throw to first to have an chance to get
John and he overthrew the 1st baseman. The runnner scored from first, John
ended up on 2nd and the Outlaw Bench went wild!.
Unfortuntely for the Outlaws, Dinz showed up shortly after that and
the KOD kicked in big time!! :-) Thanks Dinz!!!!!
Good Luck to the Outlaws, Packers & Jousters in the C League playoffs!

| I've never been much of an athlete so my high moments on a playing
field have been few and far between. Last night would have definitely
been the athletic highlight of my career, not only because it was
against the best team in the league but because it was against the
best pitcher in the league.
Thanks, Dinz.
