The Moosup Mauler was Walt Dropo.  Dropo used to play 1b and OF (I think)
for the Sox.  My dad knew him, not best friends or anything, but 
well enough to pass the time of day and stop and chat a while when 
they passed on the street, at any rate.

Dropo was one of three brothers who excelled in Sports in the Moosup
area of Connecticut.  Not long ago (well, maybe a year) they had
a big article in the Hartford Courant on the brothers.

I'm really racking my brain here to remember what the deal was, but
I think one of them owns a cement company now, and one is in sales.

Walt and his brothers used to play all kinds of sports.
