The injury to Ickey was the primary reason that the Bengals fared as poorly as
they did this year. A healthy Woods would have put them in the middle of the
playoff picture.
Even if you hate the shuffle you have to admit he's a heck of a running back.
He might not be as dominant as Christian Okoye but when you combine him
with James Brooks you got as good a running back tandem as Rathman and Craig.
I certainly hope he can come back 100% this year. If anyone has any details
please keep me posted...

Wrong again Denny, all this was started by you see .5.
I simply stated my opinion that Ickey will be a distant memory in a
few years, you started the bashing which has now taken up 14 additional
notes.
Getting back to the discussion at hand.. (Sports, Denny, which is
something you rarely have anything to add too, unless you picked it out
of the Globe.)
It's my opinion that Cincy lives and dies on Boomer's arm not on the
running of Ickey Woods. Brooks is a different story, I'd love to have
this guy (or another runner with his speed and tackle-breaking ability,
like Craig) on my team. Ickey has had one good year, he was also blessed
with a great O-Line. The fact that he's a horse means that once he's
in the secondary noone's gonna bring him down. With that line, any big,
punishing runner should get big numbers, especially with the added
offensive threats of Boomer and Brooks. He wasn't highley touted coming
out of college, so something tells me there's more to the picture than
Ickey's raw ability, namely the line and the offensive style. Then
there's this shuffle thing... puke.. it's one thing to get beat by
such an obnoxious team, but to have it rubbed in your face is another.
Bottom line, I don't think Ickey's as important to the Bengals as
everyone seems to think, any big horse with decent speed and moves
should be able to take his place. Boomer on the other hand usually
determines the outcome, when he's on, forget it, you're in for a rough
day.

Woods had one excellent season out of one.
There are several players in the HoF that were not that highly touted
coming out of college. Several others that are highly touted never make
an impact.
I saw on Sportscenter a week or so ago that he is on schedule for his
rehab and everything is looking good.

I suppose if the offensive line was the key then Ickey's backup (forget his
name) should have been able to step right in this year and have a 1000 yard
season and lead the NFl in touchdowns. Did you see it happen ? I didn't.
This guy is just as big as Ickey and the o-line didn't change much last season.
I wonder why it didn't happen ?
Maybe...just maybe...Ickey Woods is a better football player then you give

Hoot,
Maybe I jumped the gun a little by writting of Ickey. But he
was sucking big time last year before he went down with the
injury. Some of the "experts" said it was a blessing he did get
injured because he wasn't producing AT ALL. One good year, that's all
he has shown so far, period. Let's see how he produces this coming
season before we either bury him or proclaim him the second coming of
Jim Brown.

| Surprised that nobody has commented on this...
Max Montoya, All-Pro OL and 11 year vet for the Bengals signed with the LA (or
whatever they are these days) Raiders.
The Bengals had left Montoya unprotected as a Plan B free agent thinking he
wouldn't leave the area (has a big Mexican restaurant over in Northern KY).
They were wrong. When Al Davis waved some big bucks at Max, he was gone.
Wyche said they screwed up and wouldn't have put him on the unprotected list if
they even thought he would leave. Supposedly there was an "understanding"
between the Bengals and Montoya that they were going to re-sign him after the
free agency period was over.
Wyche also said that Brian Blados will start in Montoyas spot.
Not a wise move for the Bengals.

Re: Billips
Lewis Billips was indeed charged and convicted of some felony stemming from the
incident where he pointed a semi-automatic pistol at an off-duty policeman
while driving on the interstate. He was convicted and will serve his sentence
(I think it was 6 weeks in jail) after the NFL season.
Biilips however, has been a hold-out this year and has yet (at this date) to
report to camp. With Eric Thomas out for the season, Ricky Dixon out for 4-6
weeks for a 'scoped knee, and Billips hold-out, the Bengals are HURTIN' at
cornerback. I've caught bits and pieces of their pre-season games and they have
made the likes of Marc Wilson look like All-Pro.

Since I was out of the room and at the time wasn't aware of who if anybody

What is the news on Ickey Woods, haven't heard anything (good or bad)

Tim McGee signed late last week. Bengels traded Joe Kelly, perhaps
their most talented linebacker and an offensive lineman, perhaps Joe
Walter, to the Jets for unsigned 2nd round pick Reggie Rembert. I don't
what went through Rembert's head but he became expendable when Rob
Moore showed he's the real thing in camp. I'd still have liked to see
Rembert with the Jets, but I can't argue because the Jets had some big
holes to fill at LB and the OL.

jumping... how is it that you latched on with the Bengals... you
liked the color of their uniforms... or was it when they made it
to the super bowl that you jumped on the bandwagon...

checking me out or something? BTW, I'd like it to be public
knowledge that DrM (after losing in a one-on-one hoop game

He claimed he was tired out from the 15 minutes he was in the
game... HA HA HA
