| Well, I don't mind behind a Jihad of 1. That's cool.
I'm expecting the Wardlevanes, the bandwagon jumpers any time now, as
long as UCONN keeps on winning. Calhoun is taking a team of average talent
and winning...that's good...(remind you of anyone?)
And I'm enjoying myself.
Wonder where Jimbo is????

stayed at Northeastern I would have but for a loyal alumnus from
the University of Massachusetts, the University of Connecticut is
roughly equal to Boston College on the list of our least favorite
schools.
Boston Huskies si, Storrs Huskies nay.
Sorry, 'Saw.

| Saw,
I' here. I told you Calhoun would get this team playing. He's
a good coach. He took NU's program and built it into something,
and he's doing it at UCONN.
At NU, his players liked him, and he wasn't afaid to bench or
discipline a guy.
THe NU Huskies led the nation in rebounding something like 3 straight
years, and Calhoun never had players over 6'6" or 6'7".

| As long as we're going back in Huskie history, do you guys remember
Tony Hansen? Great player -- out of Holy Cross High in Waterbury. Was
even drafted by the Jazz, back when they were still in New Orleans.
Unfortunately, he was the classic "tweener," not quite big enough to
cut it as an NBA forward and not quick enough to be a guard. I think
he ended up playing in Italy.
As for Aleksinas, I always got a kick out of him. Huge guy, but
absolutely no mobility at all. He could leap with his upper body only;
really, his feet wouldn't leave the ground. Until this past season, he
had been playing, and if you believe him, doing very well in Italy.
This year, his contract was up and he held out, demanding a big
increase. The Italians told him to screw, so now he's back in
Connecticut waiting by the phone for some other Italian team to call.

Yes sport fans playing with those guys Corny, and Chuck was a
thrill 8*) I'll tell you old Dom Perno couldn't wait to recruit
this 5'8" wrestler.
While we are going back in time my favorite player growing up
was Joey Whelton. If they had the three point shot back then look
out scoring records. His favorite shot was straight up from the top
of the key. I think he's the coach at wethersfield High now.
More old names next week after we crunch Providence.

| Heard a rumor in the local newspapers that Jim Calhoun might be
interested in the Virginia U. coaching job, when Terry Holland
leaves at the end of this season.
Given that he's HOT, I suspect we'll hear lots of coaching change
rumors with his name mentioned.

Calhoun was quoted as saying that he hadn't even been contacted

a step UP. After coaching in a basketball have like Ct. and the big

Jim Calhoun must be doing something right.
The state is excited. (I mean, people who don't even know each other
are talking about it in stores, gas stations, etc.) The players
are excited. Hell, even I'm excited, and it usually takes someone
like Kelly Bundy on last Sunday's MWC to make me excited!

PS Mike, I think that the UW is gonna kick Hogan's butt. If Hogan
fights Tyson, then he can claim he's hurt and back out of the
sure-to-come match with UW!!!!!

| Another Huskie Fan checking in.
Calhoun has done a terrific job of building this team. I really like that
the Huskies have a lot of good players that make key contributions as opposed
to depending on one superstar player to carry the team. You have to give Jim
Calhoun a lot of credit, they play terrific defense and make the key shots.
I hope those rumors about him leaving are just rumors.
I attended UCONN during the Corny and Chuck era, but that team didn't have
half the poise and atheleticism that Calhoun's team has now.

My reply was tongue in cheek, I thought I had inserted a

to stay in the big three conferences to get a comperable ie. lateral
environment.

Well, I haven't been poking around in here for a while, but had to register
myself in this topic.
I graduated 2 years ago from UConn & attended every home game this year

Maybe next year, I guess, I'll keep checking in here more often...

133.27 | Corchianni to UConn????!!!! | HPSCAD::PALMER | | Tue Apr 10 1990 08:38 | 18 |

I just spoke with a friend of mine from Connecticut. Apparently there's
an article in the Hartford Courant today that says Chris Corchianni has
been given the OK to talk to schools about playing his senior year somewhere
else and UConn is on his list of possibilities... Calhoun is going down
this week to talk w/ him. Some of the other schools are: Syracuse (OOUCH!)
Florda, LSU, and a few others I can't remember.
Some other news... UConn has signed a 6'2" 2nd team all New York shooting
guard.... Scott Burell hasn't showed up for Baseball practice yet, according
to coach Andy Blaylock, and Calhoun says Scott is going to play summer
hoops this year... Tate George has been impressing in some senior all
star games and a few NBA scouts have been talking about the Tater going
late in the first round! I don't buy this one, but I'd love to see it!

| I saw the NABC game, and George was the 2nd best guard on the court,
after Travis Mays of Texas. He was very poised handling the point,
and shot well. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go at the end of
the first round/beginning of the second.
