You'll have to come down here sometime so the Braves can get some
people in the stands. It has been reported that Kelly Bundy is a
season ticket holder.

Too bad about the Braves' conference, but dem's da breaks. Anyhow, I
have a feeling that the Braves are going to be to the 1990 season what
the Orioles were to 1989. The young starters like Smoltz, Glavine, and
Lilliquist are bound to benefit from having a full year of major league
experience, and more help (such as Mercker) is on the way. Stanton
looked good in the late season, might he get the nod at the closer
role? Offensively, the Braves definitely helped themselves out by
signing Nick Esasky, and Ernie Whitt (even at 37) is a big improvement
over the pencil neck geeks that should have been arrested for
impersonating a catcher last year. I also look for Andres Thomas to
bounce back from a down year. They won't be a match for the Giants in
the upcoming season, but I'll be far from shocked if this team finishes
as high as second in the NL West in 1990.

The Braves will not win more than 70 games again this year. Esasky
might help, but the Braves have no bullpen and I don't think Smoltz,
Glavine, and Lilliquist will benefit from a defense that is flat out
bad. It looks as though the Braves will get no where until they make a
BIG trade, and give up some of their young pitching that so many teams
want.

I know the Braves picked up N Esasky this year but do you think the
"Bruce Sutter" syndrom might happen? He really only had one good year
with many average years in Cinci
I would have held onto Perry little longer

Remember, those "average" years were as a spot starter and he still managed to
get a ton of home runs despite only few at bats. I think he'll do just fine.
He thrives on being an everyday player.

84.8 | Atlanta wins the pennant, Atlanta wins the pennant, Atlanta... | CAM::WAY | We are such stuff as dreams are made on | Fri Dec 22 1989 09:15 | 14 |
| Hey, look at it this way....
An Atlanta pitcher will hurl a game with 23Ks this year, thus
ensuring a spot in the HoF, and the Cy Young.
Esasky will hit 65 home runs in 151 games, thus eclipsing ANY
and ALL asterisks in the record books (except for those relating
to the Detroit Pistons of course ;^))
By the All-Star Break, they will be in 2nd place, 1/2 game out.
They won't win the Series though. The White Sox will do that.

| It's really not that bad of a lineup..I'd think something like this:
Oddibe McDowell
Jeff Treadway
Lonnie Smith
Nick Esasky
Dale Murphy
Ernie Whitt
Jeff Blauser
Andres Thomas
Pitchers
I see a possible switch of Blauser and Treadway...It's possible that
Smith could hit second, Murphy 3rd, Esaksy, Whitt,
Treadway...etc..etc..
