I mean he looks like a college student with that silly little ballcap

This is the approach to athletics that gets Clemson in trouble every

Well Rich, you're tigers have done it again...
14 NCAA violations!
The crimes?
Payments to players ranging from $5 to $150 dollars, gifts of
sweat-shirts and hats, improper purchase of meals and auto
transportation, and a violation of recruiting rules that limit the
number of vistits and period of time when visits can be made.
No individual names were given, although a source says that all the
infractions have to do with recruits except for the payments which also
involved current players.
Clemson has until March 12th to respond to the NCAA to present
arguments and to present its case.
Three players were interviewed by the NCAA, they were, Arthur
Bussie of N.J. Rudy Harris of Mass. Rich Pollit of N.J. and also Tim
Scott of Miss. and Micheal Carr of La.
The NCAA has said that the "Death Penalty" would not be an issue
this time, since the tigers have gone over the time limit of years
before they can be punished.
This is the second time under Fords direction that the tiger have
been charge with violations. In 1982, the NCAA place the tigers on
probation for 70 violations during the 76-77 and 81-82 seasons.
Clemson will meet with NCAA officials following the meetings in K.C
in April. After the meeting, the NCAA will weigh the evidence and make
its decision.
My Opinion, If the fractions were introduced by an Alumni, bring the
guilty party to the dance. Too many Alumi's are getting the schools
into trouble. On the other hand, If Clemson personnel are to blame, they
deserve what they get. It will most likely be a slap on the hand since
Clemson helped with the investigation.
Don't look good Rich! I bet your the Booster who gave them the $$$$!!!
Have a good one!

Good ole danny boy will receive $190,000 for the next three years
*if* he doesn't coach another IA school. Then after that 3 years, if he
still hasn't coached, he will receive (2) more years of $$$$. It is in
Ford's contract that if the NCAA finds any wrong doing on Ford's part,
he is to receive no money. BUT, Clemson has already told Ford that he
will get his money anyway.
As far as a new coach goes, the Air Force coach, Illinois' coach
and a couple of the assistant coach's names have come up.
Ford has said one of his reasons for quitting, was he had no support
from the administration of Clemson. So, maybe, just maybe, all this

Appropriate place for a "funeral" setting. I would think that
the good people of Clemson, South Carolina, and the students of
Clemson University would have far more valuable things to do with
their time than to gather in their football stadium holding
candles and hoping that Danny Ford is rehired.
Many of the CLEMSON faithful want Danny back....
Good God, why ??? He's obviously been forced out because he has
committed or supported the commitment of numerous infractions
against the NCAA rules and regulations. Not only that, this is
his second offense. Clemson only missed the infamous "death
penalty" by a year or two. You all are lucky your entire program
won't be shut down.
This is one of the first really positive things that Clemson has
ever done to clean up its program. Instead of wanting Ford back,
you all should be looking at finding the next Joe Paterno or Bo
Schembechler, two coaches with superb win-loss records *and*
impeccably *clean* programs.
The latest rumor has it that Danny has signed with the university
of Virginia. I hope its true Bob !!!!!
Horror of all horrors. I certainly hope it's not true.
First of all, I've not seen any mention that George Welsh has left
the University Of Virginia. It's no secret that Welsh is coveted
by other programs but until he *actually* leaves, there isn't
exactly a "Help Wanted" ad that Ford could respond to in
Charlottesville.
Secondly, I hope that UVA steers clear of this renegade. Ford has
no respect for fair play whatsoever and, *if* my beloved Cavaliers
were to hire him, I would indeed be very disappointed and would
come to expect NCAA investigations and probations in the future.
That would be the saddest cut of all. I'd be one seriously
pissed off Wahoo alum.
Besides, why would UVA want a *third* place coach instead of the
*first* place coach we already have ???

Let's not drag this up all over again, B.A. It is brutally
obvious to you that *ALL* coaches and *ALL* college athletic
programs are dirty, rotten, and filthy and that the so-called
*good* ones are the ones who have been lucky enough not to get
caught.
I'd prefer to stay away from such sweeping generalizations as
yours and instead adopt a much more reasonable belief that the
"dirty" programs are the ones that have been either caught before
or are about to be caught and that the "clean" ones are the
programs that are not now and have never been under suspicion.
Michigan and Penn State are clean programs. Please don't belittle
yourself into thinking that they haven't been caught yet. They
won't be caught because they are not under suspicion. There are
ways to track these things, you know.
True- But to the IPTAY faithful, a calm, yet sincere good-bye would
be appropriate. Big Dan brought a lot of good to tiger-town, along with
these latest bad one. All-in-all, he did a good job. Va didn't win

I would have hoped that they would have run him out of town just
as fast as they could. But, hey, who am I to tell the Clemson
folk who their heroes ought to be. If they want to hold a vigil
to honor a *TWICE* caught cheater, then they deserve someone like
Ford.
All in all, he did a good job at winning football games. He did a
lousy job in playing by the rules. If I were a Clemson alum, I'd
say Ford's balance sheet has a severe lean toward the morally
bankrupt side of the page. All the more reason to get rid of him.
Another infraction and Paw-ville can call its stadium "Death
Penalty Valley" instead.
Only the first time out of the "11" years Danny was with the
Tigers! 5 Acc championships, no co-championships either!
And to drag out that old tired song once again ... That's a
pretty sad record for, in Richard's words, the "richest booster
club in the country." $6,000,000 a year times 11 years is
$66,000,00. *SIXTY-SIX MILLION DOLLARS* and he's got 5 ACC
championships and 1 national title to show for it. Now the
Clemson boosters ought to be really pissed. Not only is Ford
morally bankrupt but he's got a lousy return on investment, too.
$66,000,000 bucks is a *LOT* of hooch for 5 ACC titles and 1
national title.

As you may or may not know, the Students at N.C.S.U want Jim's hide

64.53 | HATFIELD AT HELM | RAVEN1::SMITHR | CLEMSON TIGERS #1 | Mon Jan 22 1990 08:19 | 26 |
| When hatfield arrived on campus yesterday he was greeted by several
hundred boos. Later he decided to go in to the crowd and shake hands
and they began to cheer. The players later voted to stop their boycott.
I liked Danny as a coach but something needed to be done to make their
program *LOOK* clean for the NCAA officals. I think they done this by
hiring Hatfield who is head of a christian leadership group.
I was surprised that Hatfield left Arkansas because he had just signed
a five year contract two weeks ago.
Bill oliver who I had mention earlier as going to Alabama did so
Sunday. Five other assistant coaches have interviews with Tennessee
this week. Look out Vols its probation!
I haven't heard where Dannys going other than the rumor about Virginia.
Its a possibilty that he may return to Virginia Tech where he was an
assistant before going to CLEMSON.
Crow who is an ex CLEMSON assistant but now at Arkansas is one of the
leading canidates for the Arkansas job.
Maybe this change will help lessen the probation period CLEMSON is
about to endure!!

Hatfield to Clemson is very peculiar. He left Air Force to coach his
old stomping grounds, Arkansas. He played for Arkansas in the '60s.
Could it be because most of the SWC is on probation? But then why would
he go to a school that is headed that way? Very big $$$? It just seems
very strange that a coach with a squeaky clean reputation would leave
his alma mater to coach at a school with a reputation off having one of
the dirtiest programs in the country. Maybe he was tired of running a
clean program amidst all the cheating in the SWC and figured he could
still win with a clean program with a "football school" in a weak
conference?
These are all just guesses as to why Hatfield would take the job. I
find it hard to believe he took it.

| Heard on ESPN Sportscenter last night that the Athletic Director
at Clemson (I didn't catch his name. Richardson, perhaps ???) is
now under 24-hour police protective custody because of actual
death threats made against him in the wake of the Danny Ford
dismissal.
*** HAVE THE CLEMSON FANS LOST THEIR MINDS ??? ***
Forget about whether or not Ford cheated and forget about whether
or not he deserved to be released. We're talking about
threatening a human being with *DEATH* just because he changed
football coaches.
The football program at Clemson is totally out of control. If it
ever was in control to begin with. The inmates are definitely in
control of the asylum.

| yes the atheletic Dir Bobby Robinson is under protection. I was at the
protest march Friday night when every one walk to the presidents house
with candles shouting *ALL WE NEED IS A ROPE A TREE AND BOBBY*
There were about 10,000 people at the protest including many of the
football players. The reson I was there is because I didn't like the
way the President Max lennon and Bobby Robinson handle the resignation
of Danny Ford.
Danny was given 1.1 million to resign. If he had been forced to resign
because of wrong doings he should have recieved nothing because in his
contract it states so. If he isn't guilty then he should also recieve
nothing because he quit.
There is an State investigation under way which may uncover a lot of
unanswered questions.

It was a tough decision to move away from Philly and the Eagles
but, hey, sometimes you just gotta say "What the $%^&" and just do
it. It's good every once in a while to pull up all your roots,
let fly, and see where you land. Keeps the juices flowing.
However, giving up the Iggles was a *TOUGH* one. All is not
lost, though ...
The house we're buying in South Carolina has a giant satellite
dish in the back yard. Soon as I saw that baby, I asked the
owner if he could pull in football games from across the country.
"Sho' nuff'" he said whereupon I turned around to smile at my
sweetie and I gave her my best grin and said "Looks like this is
the place, babe." Amazing priorities, don'tcha think ???
So, I'm reading up on dishes now and you cain bet that I'll be a
pointin' it at whatever bird is up there that's beaming down the
Eagles games next year. Not to mention NASA signals and Disney
cartoons and movie channels and so on and so on ... Maybe I'll
even check back in on the Delaware State Assembly to see if
they've decided to call themselves "Delawareans" or "Delawarites"
yet.

12 of the 18 football players who were given scholarships in 1985 have

This is a very simple to understand statistic. It says that you count
