line up by size order!!!!
I'm Kevin Farley, presently a Product Phase Down guru at HLO

Thanks guys for keeping ::Sports intact. I love the diverisity
and would have hated to go note hopping to keep up with all the

say

Happy New year!!!

Best thing about SPORTS - Reading the jabs between DanS, Jo?, Lufay,
Hawk, and trying to understand replies from the Dinz and Caso.
Worst thing about SPORTS - See above :*)
Thanks to JimWa for keeping this conf going. I really don't know
what I'd have done if it had died. Why, I mighta spent all of my
time working, or reading in the HOMEWORK conf, or such. Again,

Consequently, he hates all New York teams, and one LA team.
His playing days behind him, Dick is the quintessential, definitive

rightly so) that the best players of all time were Teddy Ballgame,

she talked to me she was ill with Bulgaria and it was terminus....
Chainsaw,
They refuse to talk about it, but Babs is madder'n hell. They spent the
whole weekend making my life miserable, so I left and went skiing ( 20" of
fresh powder. Maybe there is a god ). Evidently they were making a movie or
something, and Kelly decided to play a practical joke. From the various yelling
and name calling, I've determined that the `joke' involved 50 feet of garden
hose, 4000 ping pong balls, several dildos, a mechanical bull, an albanian
dwarf, and a heavy metal album guaranteed by Tipper Gore to play Satanist
messages if played backwards while standing on your head.
Maybe after they calm down I can learn some more. (I understand the albanian
was arrested).
Mike JN
PS I thought Terminus was where they thought the Second Foundation was located.

| Hi my name is Frank Mendez and have been a "RON" for approximately 5
years. I work in remote sales support in Colorado Springs.
My favorite team in football has been and will always be the San
Francisco Forty Niners. I remember the lean years and am now enjoying
the prosperous years. I personally believe that Joe Montana is the
best quarterback in the game today, perhaps ever... Favorite team in
baseball was and is the Oakland A's... Favorite basketball teams are
Lakers, 76ers (especially my two favorite players Hal Greer and Chet
Walker) and Chicago Bulls (during Bob Love and Norm Van Lier days).
The only teams that I dislike come from the Boston area such as
Celtics, Red "flops", and I feel sorry for the patriots. Oh yeah
I "hate" those Cheapshot artists the Houston Oilers. Sure enjoyed what
the Bengals did to them this past weekend!!!!!

True. Location - Charlotte. Hometown - The Steel City (though that's
more like the "still" city these days. That's why I had to move away.)
I used to like Tar Heel hoops until I moved here. Now I hate ALL ACC
teams because of the local TV coverage. The stations are constantly
pre-empting battles like Syracuse-Georgetown for meaningless games like
Virginia-Wake Forest or blowouts like Carolina-Clemson.
I just finished reading the Steelers note. Good rantings there.
However, the team of the '90s will not be the Steelers. It will be the
Digital softball team, Charlotte City league. We've taken the
championship the past two years and are looking good to repeat in the
coming decade(s). Besides, the Steelers' schedule is too tough next
year. They play all the playoff teams in the regular season.
So, wish Digital well going into training camp which starts next month.
It gets warm early down here.
And by the way, if any of yunz want to address me as Dan, that's fine.
I just go by Daniel in the south because I can't stand my nickname
having two syllables: Da-ayn.
Question: is there a note anywhere that talks about NFL expansion?
The Carolinas are a good prospect and it might be an interesting topic if
there isn't one already.

but I can think of no "real" sport (unreal sports are wrestling, roller

One of the local radio personalities sharing my sentiments summed it up
like this: "OK, the people who attend NASCAR say the thing they really
enjoy are the wrecks. Now I personally think it's unfair to make the
slower guys start at the back of the pack. Why should the fast guys
get to start up front? Fans tell me it's because if the slow guys

one big wreck, and everyone gets to go home."

Stock car racing is most definitely not for everyone as Daniel so
eloquently pointed out.
I would imagine that a radio broadcast of a stock car race would
go something like this ...
"And here they come ...
Zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom, ...
and they're they go. Folks, for the best oil in town, it's
Pennzoil. That's right, Pennzoil ...
And here they come ...

Saw one. Hated every minute. I left when some red neck that had

Difficult from a distance - this file has been a help for
that, also. Went to Purdue, daughter of a Michigan alum,
root for the Big-10 as a reflex action. My son has played
soccer for the last 10 years, with Mom cheering and learning
from the sidelines - I hope the US will eventually adopt this
magnificent game into its repertoire of faithfully followed
sports. Currently living in Mass, so when I finally got
ready to look at basketball wound up adopting the Celts.
Work stuff - US Customer Services in Westboro. Doing Data
Management, which is an arcane way of doing some really
necessary analysis on what really makes the business tick.
This got too long. Sorry. I'll go back to being invisible
now.

Now Jim, Ah rezumble that remark!
Actually, maybe you're being a sexist. I knew a guy named Marion, and a Val,
and other names people ordinarily associate the `sound' of with women. Then
a_course, there's always the girls I've known named Bo, Danni, Puff (don't
ask), and of course the Canuck Minx. I think it's up to Alison, an admitted RON
(and I thought lady RONS were WRENS) to settle this sex thing. (PS is it okay
to say sex thing?).

on a tripod like device to the middle of a door. (Nowadays they
just use plastique).
Anyway, to be hoisted on your own petard was like having the sappers

mutual harmony; A unique driving experience; Pleasure; Satisfaction; A
feeling experienced by Volkswagon drivers.
I own a VW and I'll tell ya, having a fahrvergnugen is incredible.
Ever since my first fahrvergnugen, I cain't get enough. Now, I must
have at least 1 fahrvergnugen per day! The best fahrvergnugen I've had

since that fahrvergnugen, I never leave home without a box of tissues!
I'm waiting for my first multiple fahrvergnugen which, I believe, I'll

Next time you're in Britland, we'll see a real 'football' game (i.e.
with a round ball!!). And I'll be sure to take you up on that
pint of ale!!
With two weeks of the season to go, the tables look like this:
P W T L Pts
Liverpool 35 20 10 5 70
Aston Villa 36 21 5 10 68
Tottenham 36 18 6 12 60
Everton 36 17 7 12 58
Arsenal 35 16 7 12 55
Chelsea 36 14 12 10 54
Others....
Arsenal were challenging until two weeks ago. Since then they have
repeatedly fallen at the final fences. They lost 1-0 to Aston Villa
at home to a goal 5 minutes before the final whistle after dominating
the entire game. They let Liverpool score with 4 minutes left in
a game to tie 1-1, and were beaten by Chelsea 1-0 in another game
that they dominated. (Before you say it, I'm well aware that if
we could score some goals earlier in the game, we would be bothered
by the last minute antics of our opponents!!) Anyway, since these
three dreadful games, the team has given up and were recently beaten
by lowly Luton Town 2-0. I guess there is always next season.
And Liverpool, a great team but....give someone else a
chance...PLEASE!

| Sean,
Good Luck Baby - remember: Patrick Ewing is better than Akeem.
Repeat that every day ;-)
Graduuuate and wear sumthang funny on your mortarboard. Why do
they call it mortarboard anyway? Is that what they make mortar
of? And why do you have to move your tassle from one side to the
other after getting your diploma? What happens if you do it too
soon? Do you get in trouble for inpersonating a graduate? why
do they call Dorms dorms, but frats frats houses, but apartments
simply apartments? You can have a dorm in an apartment house, and
a frat in an apartment house, and why do they call it an apartment
house? Is an apartment a house, or is a house an apartment. And
where does Frat come in? why are college girls called coeds?
Aren't guys coeds too? and if they aren't, are they simply eds?
Sean, these are the questions you must find an answer too. Read
some good books - take gut courses. Get ready for Dec. Confuse
your friends and profs alike.

| Don,
Welcome. I don't think SPORTS was around back in 1983 but if it was,
most of us probably would have been rooting for Australia to win the
America's Cup that year. In fact, I think most of the US except for
the New York Yacht Club and the Newport, RI area were probably rooting
for Australia. The NYYC was and is seen as a bunch of stuffed shirted
old farts who didn't run the America's Cup in a fair and sporting
manner and was perfectly happy to keep the sport moored in the 1920s.
They didn't even have an organized set of match races to choose a
defender, their method was extremely haphazard. Of all the teams
trying to challenge for the Cup when it was held in Australia, they
were the only team I was cheering against because it would just end up
being more of the same. The only way they can ever defend for the Cup
again is for the US to lose it and then for a NYYC organized team to
challenge for it and win.
I really don't care where the Cup ends up in the future as long as it's
raced in an exciting venue (such as off Freemantle) and as long as the
NYYC is never the defender again.

cf the most triumphant and excellent skit from the original SNL,
with the late Gilda Radner as Lisa Lubner, Bill Murray as Todd DeLaMuca,

I truly almost peed my pants the first time I saw this skit, and
have almost done so on every subsequent viewing...

REFRAIN:
"My boomerang won't come back.
My boomerang won't come back.
I waved the thing all over the place;
Practiced till I was blue* in the face;
I'm a big disgrace to the Aboriginie race;
My boomerang won't come back."
*The original word here was "black", but
I guess it was deemed offensive, taken
from airplay and re-edited.

Yeah, I like good beer. I drink my homebrews a lot, but if I had
my own still and made my own whisky (which obviously is illegal),
I'd still buy Jack Daniels.
Fosters is good beer, especially when it comes in those oil cans.

| WALTZING MATILDA
by Andrew Barton "Banjo" Paterson
Oh there once was a swagman camped in the billabongs,
Under the shade of a Coolibah tree;
And he sang as he looked at the old billy boiling,
"Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me."
*Who'll come a-waltzing Mailda, my darling,
*Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
*Waltzing Matilda and leading a water-bag,
*Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
Up came the jumback to drink at the waterhole,
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee;
And he sang as he put him away in his tucker-back,
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me."
*Who'll come a-waltzing Mailda, my darling,
*Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
*Waltzing Matilda and leading a water-bag,
*Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
Up came the squatter a-riding his thoroughbred;
Up came policemen - one, two, three.
"Whose is the jumbuck you've got in the tucker-bag?
You'll come a-waltzing Mailda with me."
*Who'll come a-waltzing Mailda, my darling,
*Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
*Waltzing Matilda and leading a water-bag,
*Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
Up sprang the swagman and jumped in the waterhole.
Drowning himself by the Coolibah tree;
And his voice can be heard as it sings in the billabongs,
"Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me."
*Who'll come a-waltzing Mailda, my darling,
*Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
*Waltzing Matilda and leading a water-bag,
*Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.

| Can't believe I know this.
More on the Boomerang song. I think it went something like this:
In the bad back lands of Australia
many years ago
the Aborigine tribe was having
a really big pow-wow.
"We got a lot o' trouble, chief
on account o' your son Mac."
"My boy Mac? Why what's wrong with him?"
"My boomerang won't come back!"
[Then they go through this chorus and bannish him from the tribe. Don't
remember the verses to well except for when he meets a witch doctor and
the doctor says....]
"I know what your problem is
and to you I'm gonna show it.
If you want your boomerang to come back,
first you gotta throw it!"

| The reason all of us got to learn Waltzing Matilda and Drunken Sailor
(those verses which are reasonably clean, anyway) and the like in 3rd
and 4th grade.......
They are folk songs with historical significance, believe it or not,
used to illustrate how different people in different places do
different 'stuff', but still manage to have a good time. And the music
is easy to learn, like most folk music.

I can give you the technoweenie version...we do it in hex.
Also, to add to A&W's reason, music teachers also chose songs that
will develop children's sense of rhythm, and over a period of time,
help increase their vocal ranges, through more expansive melodies.
Plus, they're fun songs to act out with kids in the class. Make
something fun for a kid, and they tend to remember it and assimilate it.
Drunken Sailor, btw, was a sea chantey, and those songs were used by
sailors when they had to do hard work, like hauling up the anchor chain
and anchor.
Anyone wanna post the words to "Tie Me Kangaroo Down". (unless it's
copyrighted, and then you can mail them to me....)
Finally, I'll try Redback if I ever get down under. I'm workin' on
it, but right now it looks a little slim.....
later,

sing the hex version while we're sucking down suds.
Course, remembering all that backwards hex stuff after a few beers

extra beers when we're done to relieve the stress....

Geez, folks, it was the first name that came to mind. I heard
Blaze of Glory just before I got outta the truck to come into work
and it was right there on the top of the stack.
Also, John Bon Jovi and I are probably at the opposite ends of the
spectrum in terms of looks. I mean he's a clean-shaven, blond
pretty-boy, while I have dark brown hair, a moustache and have never
been anything remotely resembling a pretty boy...
However, Mike JN *does* look like Chuckles the Clown!

BTW, I do like that song Blaze of Glory, and one other of his,
Wanted Dead or Alive. But I think it's more for the words than
the music. Both remind me of Bad Company, by Bad Company...

holder and go to all their home games and last year's 11-0 season was
a *dream season* for me and many other Coloradoans. I went to the
Orange Bowl in January and am going to Anaheim for the Pigskin Classic
on August 26 for the Tennessee Game.
My husband is from Tennessee and graduated from UT and ever since we
got married we have teased about the divorce that would happen if the
two teams ever played each other. Well luckily all these years we have
been joking and there won't be a divorce!
I also am a Bronco fan and am a season ticket holder. My dad bought
Bronco Season Tickets in 1969, back in the days when Floyd Little WAS
the Broncos. It's been tough being a Bronco fan the last 8 months, but
I am true blue to my team and am looking forward to football season
starting.
I also really enjoy horse racing. My dad was a Racing Commissioner for
Colorado for many years and as a result I was able to visit many of the
tracks across the country and even was able to see the Belmont Stakes
in 1965 when Hail to All won. Someday I would love to go to the
Derby.
I hope that Denver will get a major league baseball team.
Regards,
Jan

| Welcome aboard Jan! We need all the Denver Bronco fans we can get!
Some of these Bronco Bashers have no sense of humor at all. For
instance, they think it's funny that the Donks are SO BAD that they get
wrecked by the Flirty-Niners.... but they can't seem to see the humor
when the Donks roll over THEIR team (repeatedly).

A report on the radio this AM was about a guy in the Northwest,

down.
Some clown rushes over to the passenger side of the car, reaches
in, and steals a box that was on the seat.
The driver just kinda looked at him and drove off when the light
changed. Seems he was gonna dispose of the box, because it was
full of "doggy doo"!!! :*) :*)

Dan'l, I aggree with ya. Clevescum and Pittsburgh are close enuf
geographically that the should stay in the same division.
The Steelers have said that it will save them having their uniforms

Hi,
My name is Linda Stevenson, alias Sherlock..... I work in Littleton, MA with
the great Dinz who has introduced me to this file. I like sports alot. My
favorite team used to be the Celtics, back in the days with the great rivalries
with the 76ers... but it seems that things have slowed down with the Celtics
these past few years and my eyes and ears have once again turned to the Bruins.
Wasn't that such a let down last season! I used to be into the Bruins big time
back in the 70's when Sanderson, Orr, McKenzie etc were there. The good old
days. Anyway, I like to watch the Patriots on Sunday afternoons (even if their
losing 47 to 3 or whatever that outrageous score was last weekend). I also like
the Red Sox alot. I put up with alot of #### from the Dinz on liking Boston
teams, so I will need your support once in a while to help ward him off.
I'd really like to participate in this conference. It's my first attempt at
input to any of the note files. I look forward to it!

Anyway, we all hold our own in here. Of course some are only

| Sherlock, don't worry about the Dinz. He's got enough to do just
worrying about himself and his teams.
Digger and I have had to put up with him in the past. When both
the Dinz and I were in So. Lawrence, he jumped from the Sox to the
Yankmees. He even had the audacity to wear a Yankmee hat to work
one day. Suddenly, it disappeared. He looked everywhere, even
accused me of taking it, while he knew perfectly well that I wouldn't
touch such a hat unless I had heavy-duty gloves.
Anyway, he finally was told where the hat was. Sure enough, it
was hanging in the Ladies Room! When the door was opened, it could
be seen way down at the other end. He was frantic trying to get
it back. And, none of the women there would get it back for him!
Ha ha ha, it was a real panic.
Ask him about the time all his files were erased before his eyes.
Or the time someone hung a Sox sign on his back. :*)
Give him a shot for me sometime, will 'ya?

Hi again,
I know all about the Dinz and his great bet! I'll be the first to be
there when he loses along with my camera!
Today is going to be a tough one, those dawn Sox lost again!
And Lee, we've had similiar experiences here in LTN with Dinz and
ladies room events.... he must have some hidden desire or something?

shipper/receiver in MRO1 (Marlboro MA)
Former Leominster High football player (We beat the no.1 team in the
country in 88'), former University of Massachusetts Minuteman
(cornerback).
I love the NY Giants, LA Raiders, Celtics, not much into baseball, but
somewhat of a Red Sox fan, and the Edmonton Oilers.
I don't like the Pats, they let me down too much, tennis, and watching
golf. (playing, yes, watching...WRONG)
Love to win and jab, but can take it when I loose.

Buffalonian with a Connecticut address. Give me a Labbat's Blue,
an order of wings, a beef on weck and a Bill's game and I'll sell
my soul.
I like Sunday afternoons (and now nights) with my eyes glued to
the tube. My wife is a big football fan. She's a Hoosier so we
have a great time when the Bills and Colts play.
As for hockey, this is the year the Sabres win a playoff series.
As for non-Buffalo teams that I can tolerate:
Football: Chiefs,Raiders,Steelers,Packers,Colts.
Hockey: the Whale.
Teams that I despise:
Football: the Fish (I'll never forgive them for beating us 20+ games
in a row), Bears, Giants, Bengals, Donks.
Hockey: Bruins, Islanders, Queebs, Flyers (never forgive them for
beating us in '75).
I work with a fellow sports noter, a Mr. Chainsaw. It is true what
they say about him. I must give him credit though, he only frequents
upscale pastures. He does have soft hands, even though he's a rough
and tough rugby player. Lanolin will do that, ya know.

| I've moved again. My assignment with MCC in Austin, TX is over and I
have come back to Massachusetts where it will be easier to follow some
of my favorite teams. I'm working for the Mechanical Engineering Group
(I'm a Chemical/Materials Engineer - go figure) in Process/Assembly/
Test Engineering (PATE) in HLO. As you can see, I'll be doing my
noting from CNTROL.
And yes, mom, I'm still playing rugby. I'm back with my old club - the
Worcester Rugby Football Club.

Like: Basketball, all levels (Celts hot! and lookin' good! finally
a coach that does what he says he's gonna do! Sorry Jimmy R.),
UNLV, Hockey (esp. Bruins), Football (how I loved watching
Grogan take apart those defenses, past tense mind you! Lets hope
that Mr J. stirs things up sufficiently to effect meaningful
change)
Dislike: Watching most baseball on TV (too damn slow, but fun to go to
the park to watch since you can veg, drink beer and eat dogs and
not miss much), incompetence, attitude problems - like the world
owes me something since I've had such a hard life! Boo Hoo. So
sign me for 15 million dollars a game or trade me. Take a hike
buddy. If life is so bad check out some of the 3rd world
countries. In fact I voted AGAINST signing McHale for 1 Mil a year.
No one playing any game should make THAT much money. Oh yea,
where was I.
Here's hoping the Celts make it to the finals. If so, here's my
prediction. Celtics vs Portland - the series goes 7 with Danny Ainge
hitting a 3-pointer at the buzzer to win the game, and the series!
Larry Bird talks with Danny during the summer and D.A. makes a
successful return to Boston for one more championship.
Although its nice to see the dreaded Lakers floundering, those were
some awfully exciting series!
