| Don't mean to clutter this note with questions, or whatever, but since
this is a new "era" for SPORTS, that is, different management, can we
have one Wrasslin' note again. I know it's an unpopular topic for
some, but I'd bet that at least 50% of the noters, RON's included,
would like to see it back. Personally, while I don't watch wrasslin'
like I used to, I'd still like to know what crap is going on in the WWF
and that other southern federation. Yeah, I know that there's a
wrasslin' conference, but why would I be axing for this note if I had
wrasslin' in my notebook.
And if anti-wrasslin' people like REK would simply next-unseen it
instead of replying a zillion times how stupid and fake it is (we all
now it!), then it could be a highly entertaining topic.
So, moderators, whaddya say?

1.27 | Ahem.. | COOKIE::MJOHNSTON | TakeMyLoveAndShoveItUpYourHeart | Mon Dec 18 1989 08:45 | 18 |
| I have some suggestions:
1) There should be a suggestion box
2) Instead of rasslin, we should have a G.L.O.W. note. These beautiful and
highly educated ladies embody all that is great about sports, plus it is
wrestling of the best caliber, with nothing phony about it. If someone wanted
to post some information on Hulk Hogan, or some of the other entertainers, I'm
sure that the purists among us would not mind that much.
3) I think that there should be certain notes that DON'T get deleted, in fact a
couple that should be brought over from ASABET intact. Such as: The JOKES note,
The GLOSSARY Note, etc. ----- These things don't get old. Extraneous
`conversations' within these notes could be deleted, but the notes themselves
make a nice intro for new noters entering the notesfile.

and create a new note here.
Keep in mind it won't be brought over in it's present form.
Personally, I'd rather see you start the topic over again in this
conference if you really like the topic.
As for a suggestion box, I'll create a note for it.

I've got a tool (PAN) that will allow a note to be brought over and keep the

| Pretty simple really. You can set the time on the system to anything
you want. (Heck, when I worked at American Airlines I always kept
a batch job in the batch queue waiting for 31-DEC-9999....just to blow
people's minds).
Anyway, sometimes when you're fooling around with licensing or stuff that
expires etc, you set the system time ahead to force your stuff to expire
and test it out. I'd guess that's what's going on, either that or
someones just ALL HOPPED UP out there!!!!!

did some more (Real) work.
'bout :20 minutes ago I went back into SP90 to see what was happenin
and got the opportunity to read ~40 messages which had time stamps
from about 2:30PM (est) till now.
I know something is very wrong! There ain't no way Mike Childs
(a co-site buddy) was at work this late ( it's dart night) and coupled
with the fact that ALL the messages I read were time stamped BEFORE
5:00PM (EST) except for (sorry person?) 2 from about 20:00 hours.!!!!!
As a mostly RON ADDICT, I got a real issue here.
What the (omygawdicant believe i'm saying this...) DEVIL is going on??
If I'm doing free work for our employer, and can't watch/listen to
what's happening, AND if the damn computer tells me I read everything
and up to time, how can I trust the message?
What is going on? What is discombobulated here?
Other conferences I RON don't exhibit this peculiarity.

notes? If you are in a notes file, leave it open, spawn notes and read the

If that isn't it, beats me.

| Proper Use of Digital Computers, Systems and
Networks
SCOPE
WORLDWIDE
PHILOSOPHY
| Systems and network utilities are powerful business tools,
| encouraging creativity and the exchange of ideas needed to
| maintain our competitive edge. These tools allow for
| instantaneous creation of "electronic" organizations to focus
| worldwide resources on urgent tasks. We want to encourage our
| people to use these tools in accordance with Company philosophy
| and values.
| Our peer-to-peer, open computing environment reflects our
| corporate culture. We sell this concept to customers, and
| business and society are clearly moving towards this way of
| operating. We believe that what we sell to our customers will
| get better if we use it ourselves.
| Information, and the ability to freely communicate it are
| valuable assets that play a significant role in Digital's
| success. The protection and appropriate use of these assets is
| everyone's responsibility. We must strike a balance between
| encouraging open systems and protecting these assets if they are
| to continue to support our success.
POLICY
| Digital owns and operates computers, systems and networks
| primarily to support the Company's business activities. Systems
| should be used to enhance the cost effectiveness and efficient
| running of the business, to assist employees in being more
| effective in executing their duties and responsibilities, to
| enhance our employees' ability to operate our computer systems,
| to foster appropriate open and efficient communications and to
| perpetuate the use of computers in day-to-day activities.
| Employees should remember that computers, systems and networks
| like paper files, notebooks etc., are company assets provided to
| employees to assist them in performing their work. These tools,
| and the work product they contain are Company property and
| are therefore subject to Company review and control. The
| efficient operation of these vital resources is critical to the
| success of the business, and it is therefore the responsibility
| of all employees to use the computer resources provided to them
| by the Company appropriately.
DEFINITIONS
| For the purpose of this policy, improper use includes, but is not
| limited to the use of Digital owned and/or operated systems,
| networks and conferences for the purpose of gaining unauthorized
| access to internal or external computer systems or accounts, for
| personal purposes that are contrary to Company philosophy or
| policy, for purposes that interfere or compete with the Company's
| business activities, or for purposes of individual financial
| gain. Examples of misuse include, but are not limited to,
| transmitting sexual or ethnic jokes or slurs, soliciting other
| employees, developing chain letters, making defamatory
| statements, disclosing private facts about any individual or
| organization, inappropriate disclosure of Company Proprietary or
| Confidential Information, permitting unauthorized access, etc.
RESPONSIBILITIES
| COST CENTER MANAGERS - Cost center managers are responsible
| for effective use of the Company's assets, which includes
| networking and computers. They may delegate that
| responsibility to other individuals, but they are ultimately
| responsible for making sure these policies are adhered to.
| SYSTEMS MANAGERS - All employees must ensure that computers,
| systems and networks that they manage are clearly operating
| in support of Company business activities. System Managers
| must immediately investigate and report any incident of
| misuse by an employee to the employee's manager.
| MANAGERS - Managers should periodically remind employees
| about the appropriate use of Company computer resources and,
| monitor these resources to insure that they are being used in
| accordance with this policy.
| EMPLOYEES - Employees are expected to use Company sponsored
| computer resources and their time at work (as determined by
| their manager) in accordance with this policy and to support
| Company business activities. In addition, employees should
| report all potential misuse to their manager.
| CONFERENCE MODERATORS - Conference (Notesfile) moderators are
| expected to periodically review the contents of the
| conferences they moderate to insure that material contained
| in those files meet the letter and spirit of this policy.
| Moderators are expected to remove any material that does not
| comply with these standards, and should report violations of
| this policy to the appropriate systems or cost center
| manager.
NOTES FILES/CONFERENCES
| Digital provides systems to its employees to maintain computer
| conferences (notesfiles) in direct support of Company business
| (i.e., product development, financial analysis, business
| planning, etc.). Digital also permits access to these systems to
| communicate matters of opinions and common interests.
| In all cases a computer conference must have an identified
| conference moderator as defined above. Where the conference
| directly supports the Company's business, the conference
| moderator and the responsible systems manager may elect to
| restrict access to the conference. Digital classified
| information may only be placed in a conference with restricted
| access. Conferences created to communicate matters of opinion
| and common interests may not be used for solicitations of any
| kind, and must be open to all employees.
| In addition, these conferences may not be used to promote
| behavior which is contrary to the Company's values or policy
| (i.e., they may not promote discrimination, disrespect for the
| individual, violence, etc.). It is the responsibility of
| employees who utilize such notes files to do so in a manner
| consistent with both the letter and spirit of this policy and the
| Company's values. The Company reserves the right to terminate
| any notesfile it believes is inappropriate or in violation of
| this policy.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONTENT OF MESSAGES SENT OR POSTED ON NETWORK
| Messages mailed or posted over the Digital network are the
| responsibility of the original author. Posting these materials
| in a notesfile/conference without the explicit permission of the
| author is prohibited and is a violation of this policy.
| When forwarding messages or posting them to conferences, removal
| or falsification of the original message header (which indicates
| the author) is prohibited.
COMPANY ACCESS
| Because networks, computer systems and accounts are resources the
| Company provides to its employees, the Company reserves the right
| to access those networks, systems and accounts as it deems
| necessary.
POLICY VIOLATIONS
| Managers who suspect systems are being used improperly should
| discuss the problem with the employee in question and, if
| appropriate, involve security. In cases where improper use has
| been clearly established, the employee should be dealt with in
| accordance with the Corrective Action and Disciplinary Policy
| (6.21).

For us West Coasters, and for late night easterners, there was indeed
a "new" sports conference lasted night. It was called the "New
Non-Offensive Sports Conference", and the opening note was penned
by JoJ hisself.
By the time I left, it had about 13 topics or so (I started two
of em) and only one junk note (thanks to Clay) ;-)
It was strange - especially when I logged in this morning and found

Wondering how to open up a file. So far, I haven't seen anything
on skiing. With me being a big ski buff I would like to know how to
open up a account. Also how can you delete unwanted files? My list is
huge and it takes forever to go through them all. There are only
certain files I would like to access and don't wish to waste time
trying to find the files. Some files have never even beed accessed and
should be removed. I'm just starting out and need a little help. Just
want to join in on the fun of the conference and share some of my own
thoughts with you all.
See ya On the Dark Side ::
The Bart....
|
1.124 | For starters ... | SHALOT::HUNT | Shoeless Joe Belongs In Cooperstown | Mon Dec 03 1990 14:47 | 37 |
| Okay, first things first ...
First, ditch the nickname. Can't have any "The ..." nicknames in
here. Besides, it's pass. Trump is going to get his butt hammered
in divorce court and I'm sure he'd like to ditch "The Donald" tag by
now. You have to ditch "The Bart" thing. You'll have people
thinking "Simpsons" when I'm sure you'd rather be taken a bit more
seriously.
Next, do you want to create a brand new TOPIC note ??? One that
starts a brand new discussion on a topic not previously covered ???
*BEFORE* you do, do a DIRECTORY of the conference and make sure that no
other note is around that you can use. This cuts down the "noise".
So to check if there is a skiiing note, do ...
Notes> DIR /TITLE="skiing"
If you come up empty, then you can create a new topic note with ...
Notes> WRITE
... and you can tell everybody what you want to talk about in that
first topic note. Don't worry too much if pretty soon nobody's
talking about skiing anymore and instead are talking about the Celtics,
Bobby Knight, the Broncos, or Dean Smith. Happens all the time. Try
not to let it annoy you.
Also, you may want to read a few of the notes in that SAMPLE_CONFERENCE
that first appeared in your notebook. It's got some helpful hints on
noting etiquette. I noticed that you've already quit using ALL CAPS
SINCE PEOPLE THINK YOU'RE SHOUTING IF YOU DO THAT. Well done. The
rest of that etiquette information will help, too.
Hope this helps you ...

| A couple of other things:
There's a topic in here (124 I think) which is the trademark
topic.
Over time, people come up with nifty expressions in here, and
they kind of catch on. They trademark (tm) them.
For example, one that comes to mind is Detriot(tm), which came
into being because of the bad boy Detroit Pistons. Anyway,
if you observe for a while, you'll get the hang of when to
(tm) something and when not to. Since you're new we'll cut ya
some slack 8^)
Also, you'll learn about RCASO. RCASO was a guy who used to
note in here, but as has been previously said by others, he
couldn't type too well, and tended to use lots of upper case.
Anyway, he inadvertently came up with some gems of expressions.
if you see "YOU OUR TOO BLAM" (translation: you are to blame)
you'll know it's an RCASO expression, as are the words nexted,
lasted, firsted etc....
You won't really be accepted into the fold until you start one
helluva digression on guitar players. The moderators will tolerate
it for a couple of hundred replies or so, then they get mad and
tell you to knock it off. If you can get them to that point,
you'll be golden (but then knock it off 8^))
Finally, you've got to do SPORTShrooms....

various subjects.
You can also skip topics in which you have no interest by hitting the

If you have a specific editor you ordinarily use, ie. I use sort of a
customized EVE, you can set up a SPAWN sequence in a NOTES$EDIT.COM

PS - As this notesfile has a home in Colorado, any bad mouthing of John
`god'(tm) Elway, can have serious rip-her-cushions (tm). Just ask Mike

Reading your message I'm not sure if you want to start up a whole *conference*
(e.g. OURGNG::SPORTS) or just a topic within the SPORTS conference.
Anyway, I imagine it's a topic you want to start, so just type "write" instead

Otherwise, contact Chainsaw as he is the offishull "New Topic Starter Upper".
