3763.0. "Compatibility btw. 8505 and 8265T" by MUNICH::CUZUM () Fri May 23 1997 11:13
Hi, folks,
a customer using an Exabyte 8505 tape drive on a DigitalUnix System
(V4.0) wants to exchange some data with someone using an Exabyte 8265T
tape drive (2.3 Gb, without compression, he says) on an AIX 3.25 system.
The AIX-partner can't read any tapes created by our dUnix-customer(with
tar, cpio or dd). He always gets an error message which says that the tape
is damaged. Our dUnix customer can read everything which is written on tape
by the partner's 8265T tape drive.
Can you tell me something about compatibilty between this tape drives or
options our customer can use to make his tapes readable from the other
side (8265T?) Let me know, if you need more informations about the 2 drives.
Regards,
Corina

| The Exabyte 8200 series drives use a lower density than
the 8500 series. You would have to create an entry in
the ddr database /etc/ddr.dbase for the 8505 and use the
/dev/nrmt*l device to try and force the lower density.
Before you ask, I don't know exactly what the entry should
look like but the one for the 8500 should be close.
See the man pages for ddr_config and ddr.dbase
