3704.0. "Random Slot Selection" by KERNEL::FISHERC () Tue Mar 25 1997 16:26

Hi,

Customer asked me how he could choose the next slot. Now I know there is MRU
but is there any other way?

He is using a Tz877 connected to a dsd30 by a dssi bus.

Thanks in advance for any help.

	Well, there's the front panel of the drive. There is also
	the suite of layered products that use MDMS; HSM, SMFS, SLS
	and ABS (I assume this is VMS, since nothing else supports
	DSSI).

	The point of MRU is provide this function. Is there some
	reason they can't use MRU?

    Under OpenVMS...DISMOUNT/UNLOAD...MOUNT will select the next slot
    if the loader is in autoload.

    If the customer needs to overwrite good data ;-) they have to confirm
    this on the front panel of the drive.

    Or use MRU.
