3688.0. "Can't access /dev/mc18 (TL822)" by MDR01::CARVAJAL (MCS Madrid) Tue Mar 04 1997 08:41

    Hi:

    I'm trying to configure a TL822 on Unix.

    System 8200
    OS version 4.0a
    SCSI CAM 3.1a
    Networker 4.2

    The operating system recognices the tape and the media changer but
    there is no posibility to access the robot.

    a file /dev/mc18 does not give me any information.

    I have the devices created and, i suppose if i have a tape on the
    device i will get to copy something on it.

    When i execute jb_config, this comand creates same device as me
    (/dev/mc18) but this command is not able to access /dev/mc18.

    I have installed MRU but i don't get anything.

    I don't know if i nedd any patch or i sould check anything more.

    Any suggestion??

    Thanks in advanced

    Begoa Carvajal

3688.1Error messages please.SSDEVO::ROLLOWDr. File System's Home for Wayward Inodes.Tue Mar 04 1997 15:519
	Please describe "don't get anything". I haven't never seen
	the Digital UNIX version of MRU exit quietly in the face
	of an error. Since there is probably an error message it
	is essential in finding out what the problem is. My first
	guess is that you don't have the driver installed or you
	have rebooted with the kernel having the driver. If you
	do a "robot show robot /dev/mc18" in this case, you'll
	get an "interrupted system call" message. This is bit odd
	as messages go, but it is unique to the symtom.

Don't use MRU and NetWorker with the same jukebox.
If you have MME, there can be a conflict with CLC.
A file on your /dev/mc18 should return something.

If you have a CLC question, ask in DECWET::CLC (I suggest asking here first)
if you have a NetWorker question, ask in DECWET::NETWORKER
