3679.0. "select density on TZ887" by ONOIS1::CAVAILHE () Thu Feb 27 1997 13:59

    Hello,

A customer has bought an upgrade from Tz877 to Tz887.

This drive is connected to KZPAA via 2 DWZZA.

With Tz877,the customer used the utility SET_TZDENSITY.EXE to
select the density in a batch procedure.

At my knowledge, this utility has not been upgraded for Tz887.I
know this utility is integrated in the driver in AOVMS V7.2.
A french collegue has relinked the driver in AOVMS V7.1,but the
customer can't upgraded in AOVMS V7.1,he is obliged to keep in
    	    AOVMS V6.2.

Like on the customer site, there is an HSZ40,I propose to
connect the Tz887 with 2 DWZZA on the HSZ40.

            - First the HSZ40 must be in V3.0Z-2.
            - Secondly, the customer want to select the density TK85,TK87,
TK88 and compression mode in a batch procedure.
    	    My question is:
Can we do via a script command like set host/scsi T0
and which are the good commands to select the
   		 densities?

            - Thirdly, can we select a random slot via a script command
(passthrough container) or can we used MRU V1.1 ?.

By advance,thank-you very much for a quickly response.

            Best regards.

            Olivier Cavailhe,CSC_France.

As nobody has answered this yet maybe this will help. The setting of
the density can be done by using HSDSA and HSZTERM. You can write a
script that can then use the SET UNIT DEFAULT_FORMAT=xxxx on the HSZ40.

I would also thing that MLU would be the best way of controlling the
slot selection as it is a supported product.

    Cheers

Are you sure MLU is supported? The MRU team got an IPMT case
on it recently because nobody else would take responsibility
for it. WE certainly don't support it.

DON'T use MLU... This utility has never been officially supported and
now there is noone maintains it.. Use MRU as Alan mentioned.

Uh.... But we don't support density selection... MRU only
controls the media changer, not the drives it has access to.
The right thing to do is to have VMS recognize that there
is more to tape drive density than being a 9 track drive or
one with compression and one without.
3679.5LEFTY::CWILLIAMSCD or not CD, that's the questionThu Mar 13 1997 15:3210
Which it does, in 7.2, for direct connect drives....

Don't expect this to be ported back to earlier versions. There are no
    plans to do so.

It was a long, contentious battle just to get this far with density
    select.

Sorry for the issue I caused but .1 was a typo when I said MLU. I meant
MRU but my old mate Micky's DEC ghost loomed large again. Sorry it took
so long to come back but I have been off for over a week; treading the
    boards.
