I have question around reading a RSTS backup tape under vms. I know there
are txt files on the tapes. Is there a utility under VMS that will
allow this?
Thanks..John S

I know of no such utility. That does not mean it does not exist....
Sounds like time to call DECUS...
Or try the VMS notes file - they may know.

It would help to have some idea what RSTS backup utility was used
to write the tape, or anything else that might shed light on
the format. Some RSTS backup utilities can be read by VMS backup,
others might have looked like DOS utilities, others, Lord knows.
A few such tools have been written in the past...old RSTS or RSX
or even old VAX sig tapes are good places to look...but the name
of the backup utility used or ANYTHING about it, or even tape
vintage would help. (If the headers are 14 bytes long it could
be a DOS format or Rollin format variant, even!).
My online collection of catalog stuff for DECUS doesn't turn up
anythng directly obvious, but there may be better keywords that
I'd need.
