3627.0. "Write Protect on TZ87 - firmware V60 ????" by GIDDAY::BENBROOK (Brisbane ruLes) Fri Jan 24 1997 04:45
One customer has several TZ87-VA drives in BA35x boxes. All Drives
are at V60 firmware (according to an associate of mine). The upgrade
to V60 was only a few weeks ago.
Since then, the customer has seen two separate incidents where a tape
will not load, but turns on Green led, and then flashes Write Protect
led. This does not match a scenario in the TZ87 Technical Manual.
Since I have not heard of/seen this before, I wonder if the upgrade
to V60 of f/w has introduced the problem.
Has anyone else come across this particular scenario ????
In addition, the first failing TZ87 had V60 reloaded, but was later replaced
(days later, not weeks). The second was in SOLID failure mode, but worked
fine when I went onsite. Would/could a SCSI reset produce a ucode init that
would have a similar effect to Power OFF/ON ? The second one is working at the
moment, but time will tell ......
Customer HAD tried several tapes with similar results, and had used the same
tapes in another TZ87 -VA with no problems.
???????????????????????
