    The best game of the year was played last night between the Wings and
    the Colorado Avalanche.  This was the return of Claude Lemieux to
    Detroit since the incident last year with Draper.  The pace was
    unbelievable and the hitting was fierce.
    
    Detroit came back from a 5 - 3 deficit to finally win the game 6 - 5 in
    overtime.  The overtime goal was scored by McCarthy who also pummelled
    Lemieux in the first period.  
    
    A brawl broke out in the first period when Larionov and Forsberg of all 
    people started to fight.  Even the goalies, Vernon and Roy went at it.
    
    I hope that these two teams meet in the playoffs. If so, it will be the 
    series to watch.

    Yeah - this was a great game.  Though I wonder what Dallas was thinking
    listening to all that fawning over a preview for the West Final. 
    
    Looks like Vernon got the better of Roy in their fight.  I guess
    Patrick should stick to fighting Software Engineers :-)

    Darren McCarty has been one of our most consistent player on the Wings
    this year and has come a long way in the offenive department being
    paired up with Shanahan for the last few months!  And, he can still
    pack a big punch when needed, too.  Lemieux took the fetal position and
    McCarty pummeled him.  Lemieux needed 12 stiches afterward.
    
    Vernon did get the best of Roy in that fight as well, but Roy claims he
    was cut when he first left the crease and Shanahan collided with him.
    
    Hope these two teams do meet in the conference finals as well....

    McCarty should be getting a suspension. I saw no difference between
    attacking Lemieux and what Dale Hunter did to Turgeon a few years back.
    I hate Lemieux, but McCarty showed what a chicken-s@&t he is by
    suckering him. As a player McCarty can accept the consequences of his
    actions but the ref... I really think the referee Waroski (?)  should be
    suspended, he lost control of the game. Giving McCarty a double
    roughing for what he did is disgusting. He should have gotten
    instigator, 5 mins major, and a game misconduct plus the tape of the
    game sent to Burke. Crap like this just allows the game to degrade into
    garbage hockey. Detroit fans may be happy with McCarty, but if the
    Avs and Wings meet again, some knuckle head along the lines of  McCarty 
    will be suckering Darren or even worse (career ender?). There are no
    rules now, so you Detroit fans will have to live with it...

    I agree this was *THE* best game this year!  man what hitting!
    Lemieux got what he deserved and in true chicken-$hit fashion
    turtled the the puke that he is. It was too funny watching
    Larionov & Forsberg start it all. I think Shanahan was the one who
    "got" Roy not Vernon.  Anybody notice a certain #52 didn't look
    good in his fight?  I can believe Devorski let this get out of
    hand cause he sucks!  Why weren't the goalies tossed or at least
    Roy for being the instigator?

   Toby - Shanahan may have gotten him *but* Vernon caught him with a left
   to the same area. 

   It was a fun game to watch.

    I also liked the fights but just did not like how McCarty suckered
    Claude. I would have rather watched the turtle start cowering as
    McCartny came towards him and then lay a schlacking to him (of course I
    thought the kneeing was a bit much). I do not like sucker shots, 
    they are cheap.. The old time hockey did not have cheap shots like
    todays hockey. There was some respect for players back then, nowadays
    it is a free for all. Funny thing is no one got suspended. On HNC, 
    Cherry said that this fight put an end to the Draper incident and 
    there will be no carry over if these teams meet in the playoffs. I 
    disagree with him, there will be a blood bath if the meet again this year.

    I can certainly understand the frustrations the Wings had toward
    Lemieux, but like a few guys mentionned in here, I didn't like
    McCarty's sucker punch to start the brawl. 
    
    Going back to last spring's hit by Lemieux, I don't think it was that
    bad of a cheap shot...Let me explain; yes, it was a blatant hit from
    behind, which deserved a 5 min major + a game suspension. However, I
    see these kinds of hits at least 2-3 times a week during NHL
    games...The difference here is that where Lemieux hit Draper, there was
    no glass to 'protect' Draper, and his face hit the top of the boards
    and caused a lot of serious damage...Don't get me wrong, I'm not
    'siding' with Lemieux here, and having played a few hockey games in my
    life, I respect the fact Draper's teammates took matters into their own
    hands, and what made them even more frustrated are the off-ice comments
    Lemieux made since the incident, one quote was;"...Draper shouldn't be
    mad at me...after all, I put him on the 'map' w/ the hit...".
    
    I also think the whole matter is now closed, unless Lemieux...:*))

    Brian Burke has to take some responsibility for what happened.  If he
    had given Lemieux an appropriate suspension last year maybe some of
    this would not have happened. What we got instead was "frontier" justice.
    
    I don't like violence in hockey but as I watched McCarthy attack
    Lemieux I could only think "he's getting what he deserves".  I too was
    surprised at the double minor for roughing.  A joke!  Maybe the league
    is sending a message to Lemieux and other players like him (Samuelson
    comes to mind) that if you're going to take liberties and cheap shots
    out there then its open season on you.  I personally don't have a
    problem with that.  That's how "old time" players used to regulate each
    other.  Suspensions were extremally rare in the old 6 team league.
    
    I think that Cherry is wrong. If these two teams meet in the playoffs, 
    this will carry over unless Lemieux is not dressed.  The Avalance are
    probably wishing that Simon was still on their roster.

    Apparently the league is looking more into the actions of Marc Crawford
    and Pierre Lacroix off the ice than what happened on the ice.
    
    Lacroix supposedly struck a Detroit reporter in the press box during
    the game.  The reporter had put a "Wanted" poster of Lemieux in the
    papaer on the morning of the game.
    
    Crawford went into the ref's room a few times between periods and after
    the game.  He supposedly elbowed Aaron Ward in the corridor after the
    game.  Ward had earlier been geven a game misconduct.  
    
    In one of the earlier games in Denver, Lacroix tried to get into the
    Detroit dressing room....yelling obscenities while he was at it.
    
    
    
    And one final thing.....Patrick Roy, even after fighting with Vernon in
    the first period, did something classy at the end of the game.  It was
    Vernon's 300th win and Patrick fished the puck out of the net and
    flipped it to Vernon.

    anybody see last nite's game between the Wings/Blues?
    in particular  Konstantinov's hit on MacTavish. 
    Konstantinov hit him low and Mactavish went up-n-over
    almost landing on his head. He (Mactavish) went right after
    Konstantinov pounding away it was great.

Well, it took a little longer then I expected, but the message I have been

Brawl Feast...Especially if the Wings win it this year...And how can you not
like Claude "Hall of Fame" Lemieux - Mario Who??? Truth of the matter is,
alot of the boyz including Foote have had problems with him...Foote was
still bitter about Lemieux's screw up in the World Cup that cost them the
game and Foote the MVP!!! Lemieux even said this in the paper about his
scoring streak "What do you think Superman is only a comic?"...He also said
something in french in the dressingroom (after the first loss to Edmonton)
and Foote thought he was saying it to him (but obviously didn't understand
what he was saying) then Roy stood up and yelled at Lemieux "F-You its not
the defense, its the f-ing forwards...So I guess Claude was trying to blame
the D...And you and I both know, when a goalie sticks up for his D, his not
lying...Oh, well atleast Foote will be home next week...PARTY TIME...Didn't
get to see him too much last year, so this will be good...One year
off...We'll get Stanley back next year...And as Roy would say 
GUARANTEED...

But I can honestly say...I have gained a hate for the Wings over the last
year or two STRONGER then the hate I use to have against the HABS (its true
Ray)...I can't stand them...The only one I use to like was Yzerman...But I
don't like him anymore!!!

McCarthy, I LOATH...I HATE DETROIT...See what you've done, you've got me all
worked up again!!!1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10...

But I don't want Dildros to win the Cup either...When does Football start???
