    The Sabres just fired GM John Muckler.

I wonder if Ted Nolan's job is secure.

How about Schoenfeld leaves Washington, Poile and Schoeny join
Buffalo. Then Barry Melrose leaves ESPN and takes over as GM and
coach of the Capitals?

cheers,

	fred
567.30I guess he's worth a 2nd chanceKAOFS::WATTERSWed May 14 1997 20:478

    	You sure you want that??????
    	Melrose did too well, too fast in the NHL (thanks to 99).
    	Mind you he did very well in Jr and then in the AHL (Adirondack).

567.31it could be worseWBC::wbcws4.wbc.cop.dec.com::deadyWed May 14 1997 21:199
Well, the names currently mentioned for GM are Muckler, Milbury, and
I can't believe it -- Mike F'n Keenan. If Keenen gets it I'm dumping
the Cap's for good, and with Pollin's savy I'm prepared for the
worst. Schoenfeld is too defense minded, IMHO, and with some of the
new Caps a more potent offense is attainable.

cheers,

	fred
567.32There seems to be lots of openings this year!GOBUCS::COOLEYMegan and Michelle's DaddyWed May 14 1997 21:2512
    Hi Fred,

    I thought you already dumped the Caps for good...
    I'm glad you still care (a little).
    I can't see anyone hiring Keenan, though, after what happened in STL.

    And I think it was either Muckler OR Nolan in Buffalo. So Nolan
    should be staying.

    And besides, I heard Melrose is headed to the Pens...

    I don't know where Keenan will go (if anywhere...), but was he ever
    bitter and mad at the Bruins for the way Sinden treated him...He was in
    the middle of negotiating a deal, when a local reporter told him Jack
    Parker was offered the job...BTW, Parker declined the job offer.

    Ray.

    	That's good, I didn't want Keenan behind the B's bench anyway.
    Keenan's a fine one to talk, isn't he the one that walked out of a
    contract in NY? Funny how he feels that he can do anything he wants but
    that there are certain rules of etiquette or protocol that must be
    followed when dealing with him.

567.36I'm sure Keenan would take himTIMAST::HUGHESThu May 15 1997 18:5013
    I saw the news conference in which Keenan said "I thought I'd earned
    more respect around the league than to be treated like that."

    Great Quote

    Fred,
    If Keenan becomes the Caps GM, you won't have to dump them for good.
    Keenan will take care of that for you.

    Actually, I hope Keenan gets a GM job soon. We have a boatload of
    overpaid "Keenan type players" that we'd love to get rid of.

    Jim Schoenfield and Terry O'Reilly met w/ the Sabres brass for jobs in
    the org.

    Strangely enough, the Sabres gave coach Ted Nolan the "green light" to
    talk w/ other teams...
