Hello, Has anyone experienced the problem with platties fighting? I used to have 2 males and one used to chase the other round & round the tank whenever it came out from under it's hiding place and the poor thing never saw daylight as it hid for 23 hours a day! They both eventually died when I had tank problems. A few weekends ago I was sold 2 females (after asking for one of each) and now I've got the same problem again, but not quite as bad, but I don't want it to get stressed out and get Ick. Would I be better off getting a couple more Platties? Cheers, Gill

I purchased 4 platies at a wack (2 males, 2 females). Same thing as you described. One of the females eventually got what looked to me like ich. I took her out and medicated her in a separate tank for about two weeks. I thought maybe they were chasing her because she was sick to begin with, but after reading your note, it may be the other way around. She's been back in the big tank now for a few weeks. They still chase her around, but so far she seems to be ok. They don't bother the other fish, that was my main concern. At any rate, I bought them because the are quite colorfull (Sunburst Platties) and I needed to get some color into my tank. I read on the web that they were supposed to be fairly peaceful. Bill |
