1687.0. "performance of canister filters with planted aquarium" by RDGENG::CLAYTON () Wed Jan 29 1997 07:54
Hi
Just thought ID post a note to gauge the feelings of other fish
keepers.
Here's the situation I have a two aquarium's one thirty-three
gallon and one 25 gallon both with plenty of plants fish and co'2
fertilized via bio plast tablet system. The problem was that the
external canister filter pumps "ehiem pro 2222 and a fluval 303
became very slow on both tanks proberbly over the period of six
month's, even with regular media changes, I mean changing the carbon
and wadding leaving the ceramic media intact to keep the biological
action going.
It got to a point where I had to strip them both down to see if there
was something blocking the pipes because they were so slow I cleaned
the pipes with some brushes.
The pipes gave up some dirt but no real blockage was found. I cleaned
the motor spindle and reassembled the pumps.
I was quite surprised to have both pumps working like brand new
pumping plenty of water round the aquarium.
My conclusion is that deposit's in the pipework however small make a huge
difference to the flow and cleaning the pipes should be included in
regular maintanance.to keep up optimum flow in the aquarium's
hope someone finds this useful
