8920.0. "DHW heatpump=10000BTU *free* A/C! $200 OBO" by MILKWY::DBROWN () Thu Apr 10 1997 14:01

Carrier high efficiency electric hot water heater. This is a ~10,000
BTU air to water heat pump, which includes a hot water circulator
pump. This unit hooks up to your hot water heater with hoses (original
hoses included with heat pump.) It pumps heat from the air into your
hot water, so that you need less electricity to heat the water.
I believe that this unit has a Coefficient of Performance (COP) of around
2, so that for each Kilowatt of energy it uses, it will pump 2
Kilowatts of energy into the water (the 2nd KW of heat is pulled out of
the air). This results in a 50% savings on electricity.
The big benefit is using this in the summer, where the heat removed
from the air results in 10,000 BTU of *free* A/C!!!
This unit originally retailed for over $600 (which is why everybody
doesn't already have one. Bills which would have required these to save
electricity have failed because of the high cost.) I'm asking $200 OBO.
If used for both cooling and DHW, it could pay for itself fairly
quickly.
Reason for selling: I already have solar collectors on my roof
providing free hot water, and central A/C.
Can be seen in Bellingham, Marlboro (MRO), or Maynard (PKO).
