2189.0. "Something to deter neighbor's dog from yard?" by USDEV1::GERACE (Cindy Gerace @297-3884) Wed May 07 1997 11:33

Is there anything I can spray or sprinkle around my yard that will keep
my neighbor's dog away? Whenever they let her out off her leash, she
uses my yard as her personal toilet. It wasn't a big deal in the winter,
but now that I have to mow the lawn, I'm really tired of having to pick
up her crap or even worse - stepping in it!

I spoke to my neighbors last weekend and they apologized (even picked up
some of the piles), but I noticed this morning that she's been back.
Except for this one problem, they are good neighbors and the dog is
very well behaved. Rather than having to keep nagging them and causing
hard feelings, I was hoping to find something that would deter her from
my yard. I don't want anything that could hurt her, just something
that she would find distasteful and keep her in her own yard.

    Thanks,

    - Cindy

I cant think of anything. I think you need to explain again the
situation to your neighbors. IF she is going to run to your yard
constantly, then they need to watch her and control her behavior.
It is their responsibility not yours. It will only make things
worse if you do not speak with them and settle it. You definately
do not want to stew... Good luck!

Is there a leash law? If so then that may help you understand that you
have every right to tell them to keep their dog off your property.

I have the same problem. We're putting up a fence!

there's a variety of products available at pet stores that you sprinkle on the
ground to discourage dogs.

There is a product called "Repel" that you can spray or sprinkly.
Basically it smells like crushed mothballs, so you can try those for a
start to save money. I use the Repel around my flowers beds to keep the
    cats out of my mulch.

Check your local pet supply place, if you're near Stow - there's
one in the plaza, there are several products available.

Another (not so nice suggestion) when you scoop - put it in their
yard, a) either they'll get sick of cleaning it up or b) she'll realize
that's where she's supposed to go (they have a tendence to use the same
    place).

    	Good luck!
