| The question is whether he will remain as Director of Basketball
Operations after the new coach arrives, whoever that will be.

226.19 | ML out as coach, but still in the loop | 39025::SILVESTRI | Penuts Gang: Reloaded,not rebuilt | Thu May 01 1997 11:26 | 29 |
| OK, help me out with this one ... we keep hearing that
the Celtics front office is a mess, too many people
with input, and no ONE person to stand up and take
control of the situation ...
But who are all the players?
We have Paul 'Thanksdad' Gaston representing the ownership ...
(but is he the sole owner? Dads representative?)
Then we have President Red Auerbach ...
Then comes ML Carr as Vice President of something, plus
Director of Basketball Operations ...
There is no coach (at the moment) ...
Jan Volk is in their somewhere ... is he listed as general manager,
or does he have another title?
Who else is in the mix? Scouting director? Other vp's?
Just trying to get a handle on this power struggle ...
Vinny
btw - I actually agreed with Dan Shaughnessy's column in today's
Globe .. first time for everything ...

226.20 | don't see Pitino coming | HBAHBA::HAAS | incomplete decementation | Thu May 01 1997 11:45 | 8 |
| re: Shaughnessy's column
Ol' Dan is big time on the Pitino bandwagon. I liked the quote where he
said Lou Holtz and Coach Cal looked like pathological liars for saying
they were staying and then leaving. I guess that would apply to Pitino as
well.

226.21 | Some other names who might remotely figure in power play... | NETCAD::BATTERSBY | | Thu May 01 1997 13:05 | 19 |
| Well, other names that come to my mind (and I don't know for sure if
all of these people are still around, or have been replaced by others),
are;
Paul Dupee still VP and still has some fractional ownership?
Alan Cohen still VP and still has some fractional ownership?
Jan Volk Executive VP-of-Something
Joseph DiLorenzo VP of Finance (head beancounter)
Rick Weitzman Head Scout
John Kuester Video coordinator/scout
Forrdy Anderson Special Assistant Scout
These are guys who might possibly have some say in player/draft
selection
whether it's wanted or not. :-)
I grabbed these names from a 92-93 Celtics media guide.

226.22 | Seems to me I should be Executive Vice President of Stats | TNPUBS::NAZZARO | UMass in 1998 - Final Four! | Thu May 01 1997 17:16 | 14 |
| Cohen has been gone for about three years.
DiLorenzo got bounced from his job last year and is now Senior Vice
President of Administration, whatever that is.
Keuster was made a full-time assistant coach this season.
John Jennings is listed as Director of Basketall Development.
There is somebody named Richard G. Pond listed as executive Vice
President and Chief Financial Officer. I have absolutely no idea
who he is.
Stuart Layne is Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales.
Jan Volk is listed as Executive Vice President and General Manager.
