Is there any way to "de-classify" an HSD30-based or HSD05-based RZ29?
This is a secure site and the customer wants to remove the RZ. However,
while he can over-write any VMS-accessible block with a DOD erase
pattern, he's concerned about sensitive data in revectored bad blocks.
Since these blocks are not directly accessible to VMS, data in
revectored blocks can't be touched via conventional methods.
Is there any accepted method for ensuring that ALL blocks on a SCSI
drive are completely erased?
Thanks,
Terry Hutchin

Reformat and disgard the G list. Not easy in the field without a pc
tool like CoComp.
Or platter removal.

If you reformat before erasing, then any spares
used by G-list LBAs won't be erased.
Erasing a disk is one of those subjects where, the more you know,
the more gotchas you see. If you don't want to explore the subject
in depth, and you want an adequate tool, consider Norton and CoComp.
If you want to learn more, look for some earlier notes on this subject.
Try NOTES> DIR/TITLE=ERASE or NOTES> DIR/TITLE=DECLASS.
