6748.0. "Seagate St14207n installed in SBB , SCSI id selection issue" by KAOT01::B_CORBIN (dtn 640-7420 ) Wed Jun 04 1997 09:01

A customer has a prioris server using an adaptec 2740 scsi controller.
He has installed a Seagate st14207n inside one of our storageworks
SBB containers. The mounting cabinet is a SWXSE-06( BA350-KF)
The cabinet also contains an RZ29b-va in slot 0

He is able to set the SCSI device ID using the switch pack on the SBB
But if he sets the switch pack so that the Ba350 shelf location
determines the SCSI device ID, it defaults to 0 no matter what slot is
    used.

The SBB came with all the switches on , origonally this caused the Disk
to respond to the scsi host as device id's from 0 to 7. According to the
SBB installation quide(EK-MC350-IG) to use the BA350 shelf address
switch 4,5,6, is on all other switches are off. With this
setting the disk responded as disk 0 no matter what slot it was in.

With switches 1, 2 on and the rest off, the disk does respond as
ID 3 . It would appear that the device ID cables are correctly
attached , else the device ID's would be incorrect with the
    Switch setting for switches 1,2,3.

The customer is using the front jumper locations on the disk J6 to
connect the Device ID cables. The disk also has a side jumper location
to set the SCSI id .

Is this normal behaviour for the customers configuration.

I've attached a spec sheet from seagate on the disk .

         Specifications for ST-14207N

This text file can be obtained by ftp. ASCII linedraw characters
are used that display normally in textmode.
Windows based environments can use the Letter Gothic Line TrueType
font to display and print ASCII
         linedraw characters.

Sorry, but the drive spec is not the issue. It'ss the SBB wire
connections to the jumpers that is in question. Have them recheck their
    work.

If switches 1, 2, 3 on the SBB manually select the scsi id correctly ,
Could you not assume that the 3 SCSI ID lines from the SBB to the
    disk are inserted correctly..
