6745.0. "Help Hsd10 problems RZ28Ds" by MAASUP::TURRO (Make it so number 1) Wed Jun 04 1997 07:38

I have a configuration that was working but am now getting errors.

    Configuration
    	Vax 4000 model 705A. Bus -----HSD10------Ba350--|term

The Ba350 is laid out as follows

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    |pwr|	|RZ28D	|RZ28D	|RZ28D	|RZ28D	|RZ28D	|HSD10	|	|
    |	|	|dua150	|dua120	|dua120	|dua120	|dua110	|-BF	|	|
    |	|	|rev 10 |rev 008|rev008 |rev008 |rev008 |rev459?|	|
    |	|	|	|	|	|	|	|	|	|
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    Problem
When a drive is placed where Dua150 is, stripeset dua120 and dua110
get errors lost RD/Write ready. Dua150 is a spare data disk and is
unmounted to the system. If you remove the drive from the BA350
    no errors.
    VMS is version 6.2
The only difference is dua150 is at rev 10 the rest are 08 !
Heres what Ive replaced! Im unsure what the original Dua150 was rev
wise. But it probably was 08.

The drive is dua150,the shelf ,the terminator on the shelf, the
HSD10 the cable from VAX 4000 model 705a to the HSD10(BC29r-09).

I don't know what else to do. SWEAT was run from colorado
and they said it looked like a termination problem ! thus I replaced
    the terminator/cable.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated !

First, on the disk side, 008 - 010 is a no-op. Don't worry about it and
read the BLITZ on the code. Minor change.

Second, lost r/w ready is a HSD10 interpretation of the error. SCSI
does not have that error. What did SWEAT actually say about the errors?

Third, check how the terms are installed in the hsd. You need the SCSI
terms in as you are in slot 0.
