We have a TLZ07-DA rev A01 connected to a Pentium via a Adaptec 2940. We are using ArcSolo for Windows 95 which lists the TLZ07 as a supported tape drive. When compression is enabled either via software or via the switch on the tape drive the throughput and the capacity on the tape does not really change. We are using 90mm Digital tapes and only get approx 1.9-2.0Gb of storage on the tapes, with or without compression. Also the throughput is only approx 23Mb/Min. Any ideas on why the low capacity and lack of compression ?

as always with compression, it depends on your data. if you compress ASCII you get high ratio's if you compress executables you get low ratio's if you compress .jpeg or binary files you sometimes get negative results as the files are already at max compression and you waste time trying to compress what is already compressed... roger |
