6706.0. "RAID ARRAY 410 disks not reported properly" by EJOULT::KRYSTO (DEC_Ray_K) Tue May 20 1997 10:43

 *	I have noticed at a customer site which is running Windows NT Server
	V3.51 on an Alphaserver 4100, with a RAIDArray 410, that the
	AlphaBios console does not report information from the RAID Array
	410 properly.

 *	Here is the hardware configuration ;

 *	Alphaserver 4100,
	-KZPSA(PCI FWD controller) connected to RAID Array 410(SWXRC-04),
	-RAID Array 410 has two(2) RAID 5 with parity raidsets,
	  one(1) 24 GB raidset called RAIDS0, unit D0,
          one(1) 56 GB raidset called RAIDS1, unit D1,
	  and there are two(2) drives in a spareset, as per customer request.

 *	At the AlphaBios console during initialization
	all disk devices are reported properly, EXCEPT for the
	RAID ARRAY 410 raidsets. The following lists how console shows
	RAID ARRAY 410 disks;

	Initializing KZPSX #0...
	 Device: Disk	   SCSI ID:0   DEC   SWXRC-04   V27Z
         Device: Unknown   SCSI ID:1   DEC   SWXRC-04   V27Z

 *	Now if I press F2 to enter into console configuration mode and
	select;

	DISPLAY SYSTEM CONFIGURATION..	and then HARD DISK CONFIGURATION
	the console reports the following;

	Disk 1  KZPSX #0, SCSI ID 0	24537 MB
	DEC   SWXRC-04    V27Z

	Partition 1	  24537 MB	NTFS

 * Also if I select SCSI CONFIGURATION from the DISPLAY SYSTEM
	CONFIGURATION and then selet KZPSX #0, the following console
	reporting occurs;

	KZPSX #0, SCSI ID 7, SCSI BUS 3

	SCSI ID		DEVICE	SIZE	DESCRIPTION
        _______	        ______  ____    ___________

	   0	        DISK1   24537	DEC SWXRC-04 V27Z

 ***** How come the 56GB raid disk information never shows up?

 *	Now, if I reboot the console and go to SRM mode and do a
	SHOW DEVICE at the P00>> prompt, the console reports the RAID
	ARRAY 410 disks as follows;

	KZPSA0.7.0.2.1	DKB	TPWR1 FAST1 BUS ID 7 P01 A10
	DKB0.0.2.1	DKB0	SWXRC-04	V27Z
	DKB1.0.2.1	DKB1	SWXRC-04	V27Z

 * It appears that the SRM console reports the disks properly, yet
   the AlphaBios console(or what I know I will call the ARC console)
   does not. Should I be concerned about this?

   By the way, Windows NT sees the 56GB raidset fine and the RAID Manager
   V1.1 software configured the 56GB raidset properly also. The 56Gb disk
   is in production and is running fine.

   Also the AlphaBios Console is at V5.28(loaded from V3.9 Alpha firmware
   CD-ROM).

   Anybody got any ideas?

	regards,

	ray k.(rystofolski)

 If the SRM reports the correct status but the AlphaBIOS does not,
 then hook up a terminal to the HSZ40s and change HOST_FUNCTIONALITY_ID
 to "D".

 This is VERY important for your hsz to work properly with Windows NT

    I will implement this console command sometime next week, when I am
    back at the site, and will provide feedback.

    	Thank You so much.
