6693.0. "RZ1CB-BA" by DECWET::VOBA () Thu May 15 1997 13:33

Where can i find more information about the RZ1CB-BA disk? That's the
one that comes bundled in my DPW 500a. The markings say it is a
Quantum Atlas II disk, but the firmware advertises itself as version
"DECLYE0" which kinda makes it "all bets are off" about what i can find
    out about the Atlas II.

    HI,
It is a QUANTUM ATLASII/4GB WIDE ULTRA drive with DEC firmware.
The latest FW is rev LYJ0. You may want to upgrade to the new FW.

Do not upgrade it!

The drive you have is an EMBEDDED drive used in specific workstations, and as
shipped, is ONLY qualified with LYE0.

The drives we are getting ready to ship in SBB's under a different part number
are qualified with LYJ0 and there is no plan or need to upgrade the bare drive
you have to LYJ0.

LYJ0 may even be detrimental to your drives health.

Yes it is based off of the Quantum Atlas II disk family and you can refer to the
RZ40 specs for all the jumper and timing needs for that drive. Disregard the
capacity and formfactor information as the RZ40 may be different!

The RZ40 info and the the RZ1xx info (as soon as I get time) are located through
http://whatsa.shr.dec.com

Re .3, OK - i won't, for now. Could you tell me what adapter(s) has
the RZ1CB-BA (LYE0) drive been qualified against?

That is why this is the first RZ1xx note you see in ASK_SSAG ;^)

>OK - i won't, for now.

Don't ever, unless specificly instructed to do so. The drive you have has a
different revision logic module that what is going to be in it's sucessors. You
configuration does not need the new code or hardware change. Putting the newer
code into you unmodified hardware may not give you the results you wanted.

The drive is brand new. It works just fine. It runs in the platform you got it
in and was never tested elsewhere.

A lot more information of the newer family of drives is forthcoming. Hold tight.

Re .5, OK - i'm taking this off-line for now. But, the RZ1CB does not
work on the DPW 500a when used with the QLogic Ultra-Wide adapter. My
DPW 500a is apparently not an isolated case.
