On a on going problem, a SWXCR 4mb cache module has been swap to fix an intermittent "Controller not responding" error during the parity check using the SWXCRMGR utilities. It was found that the original 4Mb simm was a Micron Technology module and the spare one (that fix the problem) is a DIGITAL ME524-DE (As per QRL). On this situation (that was very political) we were on site working as per the warranty coverage on a system that has been sold by an OEM with different non-DIGITAL products. I have 2 questions; -Did we ever ship any KZPSC with a Micron Technology cache module (In other words, we want to know if this module may not be covered under warranty)? -Do we knows any problem using a non-DIGITAL cache module in a KZPSC? By the way, on our simm tester (SigmaLC) the Micron Technology ran all the tests error free but report itself as 1X 36 QC while the ME524-DE report as 1 X 36 (without the QC). I was not able to find any information about that QC may means or any clue if it may be related to the problem. Regards, Yvon

The part number you used for replacement is correct and was verified by Storage as we considered the sparing strategy and wrote the QRL article. The early KZPSC's may have had 'non-digital' parts for a while... it was a buy out.... and as such few buy out companies buy Digital components for their product. As to your tester results..., don't know. But did the replacement fix your problem? regards, | |||||

>> But did the replacement fix your problem? Yes, before the replacement, the parity check (on line from NT or off line from the SWXCRMGR) did hang within minutes. With the new simm, we ran several passes without any errors. The system is now running fine in production for over a week. Regards |
