6659.0. "RAID set in Degraded Condition JBOD failed state" by SCASS1::BERNAL (We all smile at 5:00 pm) Tue May 06 1997 13:00
Encountered the following this last weekend .
Customer has an Alphaserver 2000 4/233 system .
3 RZ28b-VA and 1 RZ29B-va .
One of the Rz28b-va disks is the system disk DKA0:
The BA35X box was configured for split bus mode .
We were adding a KZPSC-xa single channel SWXCR .
Installed KZPSC on PCI slot 8 and used the standalone
SWXCR utilities to configure the disks as follows ,
We added 3 new RZ29B-VW disk drives to make a RAID 5
set of 4 disks , 3 RZ29B-VW and RZ29B-VA .
The system disk RZ28B-Va was made into a RAID 1 with
another RZ28B-VA disk and then we made one JBOD . After configuring
We initalized the RAID 5 and the RAID 1 without no problems .
When we exited out of the configuration utility back to the CCL
Prompt and we did a show devices , we saw the following ,
DRA0 raid 1 DEGRADED mode
DRA1 raid 5 ok
DRA2 JBOD failed
After a couple of inits we even lost the RAID 5 set and we had to
run the SWXCR utility to make the drives optimal once again , and
after that DRA0 and DRA2 would allways be in the DEGRADED AND
FAILED condition
Finally after much messing around we went ahead and reconfigured
the system back to the original configuration , so that I can
recupe and get ready for a second try this coming weekend .
Any ideas as to why my raids were showing DEGRADED and Failed ?
thank you
Frank Bernal
