6658.0. "KZPAA TZ87N cam errors..." by PANTER::AUBERT () Tue May 06 1997 08:44
A customer of mine has an AlphaServer 2100 with a KZPAA adapter. On
this KZPAA a TZ87N tape drive is connected. The SCSI bus is terminated
at both end (E1 jumper set on KZPAA and external terminator on TZ87N).
The bus lengh is about 2 meters with a BC09D-06.
The problem is that at every startup CAM errors appear on the console.
May 3 11:30:35 mail2 vmunix: cam_logger: CAM_ERROR packet
May 3 11:30:35 mail2 vmunix: cam_logger: bus 1 target 5 lun 0
May 3 11:30:35 mail2 vmunix: ss_device_reset_done
May 3 11:30:35 mail2 vmunix: Bus device reset has been performed
Nothing is logged on the binary.errlog. The only way to look these errors
is to go in the /var/adm/messages file.
The drive can be used apparently without problem, but what about theses
errors ?
This customer has a 2nd AlphaServer 2100 with another KZPAA adapter. On
this KZPAA a DLT2700 stacker is connected. Same configuration, same
errors.
I have copied below the uerf -R -r 300 of the first AlphaServer2100 and
the /var/adm/messages file.
Thanks for every input.

6658.1 | BN23G or BN21R is the correct cable | SUBSYS::WOJDAK | | Tue May 06 1997 11:52 | 7 |
| BC09D cables are not recommended/supported in FAST SCSI configs.
See note 3553.x for more info. , including the correct cable to use.
This may not be your problem, but you should be using the recommended
cable for starters.

| Bus resets are fairly normal during startup - why is this an issue?
These are messages, not errors, so they don't get logged.
Looks Ok to me....
