6635.0. "DS-RZ26N-VZ ?" by ZPOVC::CSNAQS () Tue Apr 29 1997 03:23

    Hi,

Anyone know what is the differences between DS-RZ26N-VZ and RZ26N-VW ?
With DS infront of the part no, what does it means ? Does it mean that
this hard disk belong to StorageWorks or PCBU part no. ?

    Please advise.
    Thanks

The DS designation is for Universal parts, i.e. parts that will run
across multiple platforms. 'DS' drives, tapes , etc. run on Digital,
SUN, HP, IBM, etc (as indicated in their documentation)

It is a StorageWorks part number...

For customers, Distributors, Vars, the 'DS' parts allow them to order
or stock only one part, with the knowledge that it runs across all
	platforms.

Excerpt:

      o DS-RZ28M-VZ is low-profile, 16 bit, 5400 RPM, 2.1 GB, 3.5 inch
SCSI disk drive in an SBB that can be used in place of the current
RZ28M-VW and SWXD3-WH drives. It's initial hardware revision will
be A01. The drives initial firmware revision will be 1003.

      o DS-RZ26N-VZ is a low-profile, 16 bit, 5400 RPM, 1.05 GB, 3.5 inch
SCSI disk drive in an SBB that can be used in place of the current
RZ26N-VW and SWXD3-WF drives. It's initial hardware revision will
be A01. The drives initial firmware revision will be 1003.

A little more info: (the short version!)

The DS-RZ2xx-VZ drive part number was created to differentiate between
an older version 5400 RPM drive and the latest version. The latest
version does not meet ALL the FCC/CE testing specs as the earlier
versions did. Until the new rev of the BA356-Kx is available, we have
a configuration limitation on the DS-RZ2xx-VZ's. This limitation is
"do not ship in pedestals." When the B01 rev of the BA356 is shipping,
this configuration limit will be removed.

The narrow versions of these drives DID meet the FCC/CE limits, so the
RZ26N-VA and RZ28M-VA have just a rev change versus a part number
change. Roger's blitz will discuss the code differences and what can
and cannot be loaded into what drive.
