I've got a customer who just purchased & tried to install: -BA356-S series 7 device 16 bit ssb shelf (w/ 70-31490-01 personality module) -4 RZ29B-VW disk drives & TZ88N-VA tape drive -PMAZ-AA (V5.4) 54-19876-01 this is coming off a VS49K (VaxStation 4000-90A) KA49-A v1.3 any device plugged into slot 6 (0-6)just above the power supply, hangs the entire BA356. any combination of RZ29B-VW & TZ88N-VA in slots 0-5 appear to seem fine. The TurboChannel(54-20430-01), PMAZ-AA & 16 bit Personality module(70-31490-01) have been swpped during t/s-same problem. Is this a valid configuartion, firmware issue, or should I order more parts? - D.O.A. BA345-S box? bad 70-29764-05 SBB Power Supply box? or maybe bad BN21N-02 scsi cable? -any assistance would be appreciated [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

Would the Vaxstation 4000-90A be like the Vaxstation 3100-xx and have the host scsi adapter at SCSI ID 6 as is default? hmmmm... | |||||

i think you just smacked me upside my head. i didn't mention that this system has an existing scsi-a bus at id 7 with an internal RZ28 dka300: & an external BA350 box w/ RZ29?-??'s being seen as dka0:, dka100:, dka200:...(oops!) the newly installed pmaz-aa tca/tc0 (i think) came up as being also being scsi-b id 7 also. -i'll have to get back onsite to verify that though. if that's the case, i'm not sure how to change the scsi id to fix the conflict. i'll have to search for some kind of VS49K/PMAZ-AA manual. -thank you for the quick reply-i'll let you know. found the answer after finding/downloading the vaxstation 4000 options installation guide vax0pesa.pdf manual. for the pmaz turbochannel option it states: use scsi id's 0,1,2,3,4 or 5, for devices. do not use scsi id 6 or 7 "on the vms operating system, scsi id 6 is reserved for the controller, and on the unix operating system, where the pmaz option originates, scsi id 7 is reserved for the controller." now i have to figure out how to set the switches for the ba356-s personality module. (another pdf manual download?) could of saved some time if customer had a dial-out phone line for my laptop. [Posted by WWW Notes gateway] |
