6614.0. "DLT cartridge capacity and price" by REGENT::HUMMERS () Wed Apr 23 1997 11:00

In reading some web pages on DLT devices I notice that there are
    three (modern) cartridges.

    Compac Tape III (tk85k-01) 20G $45
    Compac Tape III-XT (tk88x-01)	30G $??
    Compac Tape IV (tk88k-01) 40G $??

Could someone help fill in the prices? I think the $45 was List
Price, please provide the same for the other two or all three in
    a new base!

Also is the XT (eXtra Tape?) cartridge just 50% longer version
of the III or different technology... and the IV all new media
or 100% longer version of the III??

Do we expect to sell the XT as well as the IV or will IV replace
    the XT?

    thanks
    \s\Rick

Aren't these prices on VTX PRICE (or its Web replacement)? I haven't
    checked, but . . . .

The XT is a longer version of the CompacTape III cartridge. Its thinner, too,
so it won't work in TZ87 drives, but it will work in any drive that accepts
the CompacTape IV cartridge (like the TZ88 or TZ89).

Quantum made an XT drive which they called the DLT3000; Digital decided not to
make it a Digital product. Quantum is still selling a lot of these drives, they
are priced low to compete with 8mm and 4mm tapes on the desktop, but it was
probably the right decision not to productize it in StorageWorks.

RE .1, well I tried to get VTX and the web pages to get prices
on all three, out of all my searching I only found the
Compac Tape III list price. Perhaps I didn't crawl all
the twisty little passages but I did many.

Hi,
Here's an excerpt from some mail I received today...
Please note that VTX Price still has the pricing for the "old"
numbers and does not yet list the "new" numbers...

		"OLD" PART NUMBERS
		-------------------

CompacTape IV
	     > THXKD-01 Single CompacTape IV, non-logo'd.
(To be replaced by new part # in April `97)

             > SWXMP-XX Mass Pack, Seven THXKD-01 cartridges.
(To be replaced by new part # in April `97)

CompacTape IIIXT
	     > THXKE-02 Single CompacTape IIIXT, non-logo'd
(To be replaced by new part # in April `97)

             > SWXMP-XY Mass Pack, Twenty-one THXKE-02 cartridges.
(To be replaced by new part # in April `97)

		"NEW" PART NUMBERS

		(available in April 1997).

             > SWXMP-AC Mass Pack, Seven TK88K-01 cartridges
		(available in April 1997).

6614.5costs for the DLTsREGENT::HUMMERSMon Apr 28 1997 12:4117
Thanks for the input on the numbers, old and new!

I looked up the numbers given (old had prices, new do not yet have
    prices), shown here for reference:

    Compact Tape IV USCLP	$100.00
    Compact Tape III-XL USCLP	$ 60.00
Compact Tape III USCLP	$ 45.00

The 'Mass Pack' numbers are actually more than 7x the single cartridge
cost but it appears like they have the loader frame included.

The 'Mass Pack' number for 21 tapes is exactly 21*the single cartridge
    cost.
