6576.0. "Not a cool Muffin - SW800 top fans Muffin versus Nidec" by JOBURG::HARRIS () Sat Apr 12 1997 10:39

    SW800 top fans Muffin versus Nidec

    Muffin 220volt pumps 1.7 cubic metre per second of air and the
    Nidec alpha TA450 pumps 5.0 cubic meter per second of air.

    I have a heating problem in a all full SW800 cabs that
    have the muffin fans.
    We have no problems with regards to over-heating of cabs s
    with the NIDEC fans.!!!!!

    Is this a known problem?

    Regards Ivan

How can one determine if in fact they are experiencing an overheating problem?
How can one tell the difference between the two types of fans?

6576.3View from top for Nidec side for Muffin fan in SW800JOBURG::HARRISSun Apr 20 1997 17:339
    RE: .1
    Either by looking at the fan from the top (Nidec) or lifting the top
    (Not screwed down) and lookin at the fans from the side (In the case of
    the MUFFIN ones)

    Hope this helps
    Cheers

6576.4BOM of FAN assembly JOBURG::HARRISMon Apr 21 1997 05:3461

    FYI some BOM info for 220volt versions (110 volt versions
    are 22-55555-01

I had a look at the wiring point for the power connector to the fan -
they are in different places...but that may not be a problem.

Also I guess one has to way up the price of labor (Labour?) to either
replace the fans 12-39420-01 (6 of) or to replace the SW8XX FAN/PLENUM ASSY

    Hi Ivan,

     I'm back, but have lots of mail and other things to catch-up with.
    I've forwarded your message to a component engineer to check to see if
    both vendors are correct for the fan. Also to see if the airflow is
    within spec. I have not heard back from him yet.

Hello,

how do you access this BOM database? Is there any special authorization needed?
I am often in the need of finding out what EXACTLY is in a package/kit and
what is not.
This would be a tool to make many of my days better !!! ;-)

Hi Martin,

Access the web page at techinfo.eng.pko.dec.com and hit the account hot
spot. This will bring up an account application page. They will either
give you access to the BOM info or reject you. You won't know until
you try.

Cheers,

John I.

    Hello Otsi

         APPIX Support - ACADMY::QCA_ADMIN or 297-6100

         Once you have filled in the lengthy application form. (Access is
         now free - used to be $1000 for first user in a subsiduary!!!)

         (Lots of other tools on this node - but use only APPIX)

         Then to access APPIX you have to
         use iether WEB (I have not used this yet)
         or
         From VMS
         Set host ACADMY and enter your APPIX username and password (They
         did not tell me the Host name when I got back me username!)

         Goodluck.

         Regards Ivan

    it appears that the WEB page (TECHINFO) is a chargable account $1K for
    first user of a subsiduary!
