Hi Alan,
Someone in engineering may have some numbers lying around, but I
can't seem to find any power consumption numbers other than "idle"
which means spinning with no seek other that cyclic recal/diag.
This is 12w, which roughly comes out to 50 BTU/hr. This is about
half again hotter that a 2GB drive at 8.8w or 39 BTU/hr.
Hope this is of some help. Keep in mind that the spinning platters
is what generates the heat. Though the seek activity does generate
some heat, it is very little compaired to rotation. Therefore, if
spin-down powersaver is an option, you should use it if 50 BTU's is
a problem.
Regards,
John I.

For a 8bit Single Ended drive..
+5 (+/-5%) +12 (+/-5%) Avg Wattage
Max Operating Current 1.13A 0.95A 17.05W
Avg Idle Current 0.66A 0.78A 12.66W
For a 16bit Single Ended drive..
+5 (+/-5%) +12 (+/-5%) Avg Wattage
Max Operating Current 0.90A 0.95A 15.90W
Avg Idle Current 0.61A 0.78A 12.41W
I don't have the not_spinning values.
The base disk has a max ambient operating range temp of 50C
The disk in an SBB has a max operating range temp of 30C
That should get you started. Keep in mind, exceeding that temps, derates the
MTBF of the device and causes neat thing like head crashes and data loss.

| Thanks folks.
By the way (.1) Leave Stonehenge alone. I go past it every morning on
my way to work and it really doesnt need re-aligning. It pulls in lots
of nice foreign currency as it is! 8-)

| Hi Alan,
I've had that as my "personal_name" since dirt was young and I was in the
the original CSSE many moons ago.
It's perfectly harmless.
I don't even own any heavy equipment, other than a 9 gig drive.

John I
