6560.0. "BA350 w 3100 model 96 and KZDDA" by MAASUP::TURRO (Make it so number 1) Mon Apr 07 1997 17:30

    I have a customer with 3 3100 model 96 systems each with 2 SCSI
buses. The first bus has no internal drives but goes out into a BA350-SB
terminated in the BA350 .The second bus (KZDDA)goes external to a
BA350-SB Shelf and is terminated each of the 3 systems and all 6 shelfs
have only on indicator lit on the Power Supply. ie the lower one.I
tried changing the jumpers on the back of each shelf but the first way
I did it both lights lit but the first drive in the shelf couldnt be
seen. The second way I tried it(jumper off) only one indicator lit.

What gives this is a DEC supported controller isnt it ?

Any help would be VERY helpful!

    Mike,

I run 2 SCSI busses on the 3196 all the time. I do believe however that
you need one drive internally to make the power supply happy. Do you
have a drive to throw in there?

    Mike,

I just verified that my system powers up with no internal drives
connected and boots a drive in the BA350 just fine.

What are the results of the power up self test? Can you see the drives
    after SHO DEV?

    Jim,
Everything works. I was just trying to get the shelf ok signal to
work on the SCSI buses. I noticed one day that those 3 systems didnt
have both indicators "on" the shelf. And of course I blabbed to the
customer well maybe they should. The way the customer has the systems
and shelfs installed, one shelf is backed right up to another(front/rear)
and there no way to check them short of sliding them out to check them!

They are currently using all 3 systems and I just wanted some
clarification as to the shelf ok signal with these particular systems.
Ie do the shelfs support the shelf ok signals on both the internal and
    external (KZDDA)SCSI buses on the 3100 Model 96 !!

Ive been on vacation thats why I didnt respond sooner

    Mike,

I asked the engineers and they are not sure, so I would assume not.
